I've had one of those that I got free many years ago. We didn't use it much except when we had company..the coffee pot was a carafe...Just a few days before Christmas when I made tea I poured it in the coffee pot...it sat like that for about 10 mins then all of a sudden it popped. I noticed an add that they have now...it is stainless, comes with a thermos and a travel coffee cup...and two packages of coffee...for 22 dollars I've been thinking about doing that again... I bought myself a new carafe for Christmas. patti

I have a Gevalia coffee maker too but right now, it's coughing. Maybe, it's about to croak. Like Mary, I like their coffee too. When my income was reduced to disability, I had to cut back and cancelled the membership. I really don't miss it because I happen to like Community Dark Roast coffee too which is readily available at local stores. I find that most coffee maker brew coffee too quick. The water goes through the ground coffee so fast that it doesn't allow enough time for the coffee to seep. That's what the Vietnamese single coffee maker is all about. It allows you to ajust the drips. The slower it drips, the stronger the coffee would be. However, it makes a single cup/glass only. With the Gevalia coffee maker, I actually use 2 filters in order to somewhat achieve this technique. The coffee does taste so much better because it allows the flavor to emerge. I need to research to see if there's such a coffee maker. One that is adjustable with the drip/brew speed.

We have 2 Keurig coffemakers at work. Unfortunately, while they provide a wide variety of coffees, we're only offered 2 teas...neither of which I like. I usually use the filtered water dispenser for hot water with tea bags. We have several serious tea drinkers at work and they are lobbying for a Keurig machine for tea only...they insist their tea is contaminated by coffee when using the same machine whether using a K-cup or tea bag! I actually agree...that's why I use the hot water dispenser on the filtered water.

Bodum santos (pebo) vacuum pot. EASY and makes the best, rounded, smooth coffee IF you buy quality coffee beans. Grind the beans fine (careful not to let the beans at the bottom of the grinder get warm -- I stop, invert/shake, then start the grinding again. Preheat you mug! I just put a kitchen tea towel around my carafe to keep it warm. No coffee likes to be kept "warm" for long. Good, well-brewed coffee has lots of delicious volatiles. So keep the cover on the little carafe; keep it cozied. Don't wait to long to enjoy it ;) As Chas pointed out, most coffee makers sold for the USA market, do not get the brew water hot enough for long enough during the brew . They pathetically try to play catch-up on the hot plate. I've made coffee with Chemex, drips and various other techniques. One electric brewer that we had YEARS ago was made by some company (Senaec?) and that worked very well. But that is no longer made. Then we kludged a technique, using a drip method and manually heating the water with a separate electric kettle, then pouring it (manually) over grounds in a basket filter. We used a cheapy, dime store coffee maker to hold the basket of grounds over the glass carafe. Then we'd transfer it into an old-fashioned stainless, narrow, tall Stanley thermos. Even so, no coffee wants to be hanging around at a warm/warm-hot temperature for more than 15 or 20 minutes. There is a way to COLD brew a pound of coffee....
