I wish I'd seen this thread before posting mine! Yes, you can use a pressure cooker on the propane stove. I had a pressure cooker in my RV (and plan to put it in the camping equipment for this summer's trip). I have also used it on the white-gas stove (older Coleman model), when we were renovating the kitchen at home. We looked at those 12-volt refrigerators. My husband was annoyed that he got rid of his after leaving the trucking industry. Well, how could we know! Thanks for the tips on the newer ones. As far as camping reservations go: from experience, the national park campgrounds fill fast. Many of them are on the reservation system, and others (like in Arches) will require you to start trolling through the CG at daybreak, looking for departing campers. Our trip is about the same length as yours, though we are staying in motels and with friends and family instead of tent-camping. From experience with long trip tent camping, though, you'll want to get a motel room or find a truck stop with reasonably priced showers (bring shower shoes) every 3-4 days. Your trip sounds like a lot of fun -- we're heading from CA to ME via Orlando, FL, and back through MO (daughter, son-IL and new granddaughter live there). So we're going opposite of you, grin. tina, yes all sites for campers are 50 ft pull through so plenty of room. 3 bathhouses that are immaculate. The camp hosts are wonderful. Washing machines in all bathhouses too. Bike rentals if you don't have them. It is a short drive off of the island to get to a shopping area but there is a Kroger in that shopping center so pretty close. Tina we love FL parks too. We go to Grayton Beach...it is one of the nicest beaches and amazing sunsets. We go in Feb. when no crowds and not too hot. Will look at KY, have never camped there. Tybee is very very touristy. You have to close your eyes to a LOT of tshirt/yucky places. But as soon as you get on the river side of the island and the back streets and the officer row that has old restored mansions it is very pretty. John Mellencamp has a home there since the 60's. He wasn't out playing music on his gazebo but the tourist bureau said he often is. There is a nice long pier that is fun to walk out on. Best thing though is to get your bike and just ride around. We had burgers at the Sweet Shack on 1st ave and they were really really good and cheap !! Lynn if your DS wants a really interesting and very challenging adventure have him look in to Cumberland Is. It is pretty difficult to get to and a challenge to stay there but is truly a wilderness. mitch me too...when we got home we stopped to pick up Meatball ( our cat) and the truck wouldn't start !! I had been a Good Samaritan the day before and gavr a jump to a guy in the campground. After getting a tow they found the cables were loose ...sheesh. Then Meatball tried to jump into a closed window sill at home last night and is now on steroids and hopefully has not torn his ACL ...hopefully no surgery...and DD was short of money...LOL...LIFE returns in spades ! Glad we had the time to regroup :)

OK, I soaked it a little, wrapped it in aluminum foil that had some holes in it to allow the smoke to get in, and the campsite had a grill, which I had to keep lowering and raising depending on how the fire was going. The corn was yummy!! But I would definately not want to mess with skewers, I just want to put it on the fire and forget about it, not keep holding it over the fire like a marshmallow!! If I ever don't have a grill I would definatley put it right on the coals. I think Metexa is right, there's coals and then there's coals, and the right kind of coals would be good I think. I used to teach open fire cooking so I kind of know about coals. It's hard to get good coals though, if you don't have good wood. Next time I'm going to be in charge of firewood, lol! I miss all my open fire tools, but they weren't mine, they belonged to the places I worked. No room to keep such rarely used items at my house now. As for the new BF, we just like to keep things a little private, that's all. My usual rule is if I talk too much about my BF's they have a way of disappearing!! But the basics are he's a very nice guy, lives about 40 min. away from me, and so far we are hitting it off well. We may go to MI end of the month so we'll see if we're still together after that. He's from New Jersey originally.

Gotcha. My kid is in our HS Marching Band, so I am on your page. We usually don't have any foods kept hot even for home games, and the kids eat standing up or sitting on benches/steps right outside the music room. Food is served off folding tables. We have plenty of trash cans around and all recyclables are saved for fund raising. For home games we have a collection fund, about $20 per person for the season, and we order from local restaurants. One person knows what and how much the kids will eat (has it down to a science) so she is in charge of ordering, other parents pick it up and help with set/up etc. Usually its pizza, breadsticks, garlic bread, ceasar salads, fettucini alfredo, Subway type sandwiches, Panda Express, Mexican (trays of enchiladas, beans/rice). High carbs, etc. I can ask if you want. Our away games, given that we are in Los Angeles where distance isn't as much as a factor as is traffic, means we get the kids on a bus, stop someplace to eat, not fast food, usually one step up, like Portillos (chain, they have a big room for 80 kids). Kids bring $ for themselves, about $10, I packed a sandwich for myself when I chaperoned. I can't see how we could serve dinner off a bus, unless tables were brought with us, and I wouldn't want to impose our group on another HS's facilities. As much as I advocate parents bringing food, this system works for us. Its reliable and we know what will be the most appealing to all kids. That being said...it sounds like you guys have a different schedule going, so I'll add my own idea of a blintz casserole which could be breakfast as well as lunch. This freezes well (unbaked!) and could be served room temp. Blintz Casserole 2 pkg frozen blintzes - mix cheese/fruit 1 1/2 pts sour cream 6 eggs 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 cup orange juice 1/2 cup sugar Cinnamon Mix together the sour cream, sugar, vanilla extract, orange juice and eggs. In a large baking pan melt 1 stick of butter/margarine. Put in frozen blintzes and coat with the melted butter. Arrange blintzes in pan. Pour sauce into pan and bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees F.
