Thanks, guys! I'll try to answer as many questions as possible given that I'm so far away from the range under discussion. Also, since we are so far away, I'm not trying to use the thing, but is it dangerous just sitting there? Thanks for confirming that it is likely the pressure. Even when DH was playing around with the air shutter he never got a big "roaring" flame like we've seen on the Eurostoves video. The builder had the range installed by the HVAC contractor, not the LP provider. After our first round with the range in December, DH had the HVAC guy measure the line and it was the 10" water column that we expected. (I assume he used a manometer.) Also, the burner orifices are the right size for LP. So if the range gets the right line pressure and the orifices are correct, it's got to be something in between if the pressure isn't right. We are tending to think that the issue is with the LP "conversion". It was not "converted", per se, but was supposed to come from the factory ready for LP. That is what we ordered back in April and the box was marked as such. However this particular range is one of the first, if not the first, LP to come off of the Capital Culinarian line. We're wondering if either the wrong regulator was installed or they forgot to include a conversion kit. Is there anyway we would be able to tell if the "conversion" is correct by looking at it? Calling in the LP tech is complicated until we can be there because the builder has a "feud" with our supplier (but we wanted to use the provider since our sub-division has a buying club) and all dealings have to involve us. Also, I ordered the CC directly so I can't really depend on the builder for much except, maybe, to look at it & take pictures. Thanks for the help - Jo Ann

thanks alek, i prefer to get their conversion kit. It allows me to go back to propane if ever needed. (Or return it to Costco if some appropriate reason came up.) Of course I can fine tune their converision kit if I decide that 15K btu isn't enough although I'm guessing it will be fine (as spamdamn points out). Anyhow, mainly I'm just trying to figure out if my gas network off the meter is going to be able to handle all this extra capacity. Anyone have any opinions as to how 'over engineered' the code gas tables are? (or how not over engineered)? It is looking like I'll be over tapped if I add the grill unless going back to the trunk of my gas network and upgrading from 3/4" to 1". Of course this assumes that every appliance is on high and all at the same time which would rarely if ever be the case. (Basically a 50K btu furnace, two gas fire places, one 31k btu and one 40k btu, and this. And it is rare that both gas fire places are on at the same time, in addition to the fact that they are both turned down from their max settings, probably to about 75%). Oh - and if anyone knows, do I count the 12' quick connect hose as an additional 12' in my calculations for gas code? thanks, philippe

I purchased a 36" Capital Precision Range in 2009 with four burners and a griddle for my home in Canada and have had nothing but problems with the unit from the very start. I ordered a propane gas range through Direct Buy. I did not know this but they delivered one that had been converted from natural gas to propane gas. The flames burned too high and with lots of yellow instead of all blue flame. It turned my beautiful new stainless steel pots black. After spending months in limbo caught up in a tug of war of between Capital Cooking and their Canadian distributor as to who should be responsible for the repair, they agreed to send someone out to look at the problem. Apparently, the distributor, Integrated Appliance of Toronto, ON, did not do the conversion properly and they after much back and forth finally agreed to pay for the repair. However to add insult to injury, I ended up getting charged for the repair and it took over 6 months to get reimbursement! The problem is, although a service provider supposedly "fixed" the problem, in reality the problem still remains. The other MAJOR problem I had with this range is that none of the ranges burn at a low simmer - as per the manufacturer's claim. It boils EVERYTHING! I have had this range for a year and a half and am still trying to get the simple satisfaction of having Capital provide the range that they promise in their advertising rather than one with uncontrollable, scorching burners. When I send correspondence to Capital and Integrated they do not respond for months and I only receive a response after multiple emails. Today I was told by Capital that it is the responsibility of the distributor, Integrated to fix the problem. It is truly upsetting that Capital is simply passing the buck and not standing behind their supposedly "quality" product. Integrated, in turn, wrote me an email stating that the problem persists due to the remoteness of my home. So BEWARE friends - don't purchase a Capital Range distributed by Integrated Appliance if you live in the country! "Precision"?? What a joke!

Bluestar is one of the most expensive gas ranges available. Although it is a very nice unit I don't really know what you have budgeted. (Not sure of pricing on their cooktop) Ventilation is important if you use gas. Lots of people have a 30" ranges with just microwave fans over the top and they have been fine. So you do need something but it doesn't have to be a ton of money! Or a huge vent hood unless you have some serious heat! There are so many choices out there today if you want a cooktop in the island. My friend has a 36" Jenn air down-draft cooktop and loves it. It has great power and is easy to clean. I believe Kitchenaid now has one identical to the Jenn-air for less cost and it also comes in a 30". Kitchen aid 30" Only issue with a down draft is how it is vented. They do suggest several options but you should look at the manual. Or if you are getting a vent hood just get a GE Cafe gas cooktop. They have really great reviews and aren't as pricey as the PRO cooktops. I do agree with others that you should have the cooktop protected so that it is safe. You do need substantial countertop behind it or a tiered island like in the photo below. Of course you don't need the seating behind it. Just a protective barrier ;) I debated a cooktop in the island but I decided that I wanted some seriously powerful burners (Went with the GE Cafe 36" range) so I needed really good ventilation. I called GE and they said even with LP conversion you don't lose BTU's the way the burners are made. All six are 15,000. Even though my layout isn't perfect I wanted an uninterrupted island and my range on a wall so it can be vented easily. Best of luck and Happy New Year!
