Weirdo, Are you in Canada? Do you need these in metric(LOL)? I just measured my grill and it is: 26" deep, about 45" long (without the 3 1/2"handle and 13"side shelf), and 46 1/2" high. The grates are 19 X 31" (all 3 together). I actually poured a new stamped concrete patio to accommodate this grill and it's infrared patio heater partner, so there is enough room to move it around a bit. If I had a limited area deck, I would even consider extending that by cantilevering or whatever to give this grill the room it needs to be part of my living space. I would like to thank all the folks who have contributed to the Virco "knowledge base" on this forum. AleK, thanks for the great conversion info and pics. BSBBQ, for the details on orifice size and more (great pics of you, Delray and the Vircosaurs) and continuing tips on installation. Spamdam_rich for keeping the threads going and more(even if you aren't an "official" CGE). Meagain, even while I toiled away on a 20-yr-old Shepherd 1000 (so corroded it was almost like "open-air cooking"), you inspired me to wait until the Virco arrived in my area. I hope you are still using yours often (Rotis turkey coming up?). Ann_T, Great biochemistry lesson on turkey brining that I applied to pork shoulder with pretty good results on my first go at it. I think Vircos in our area will be raising the bar on brining and rotis roasting thanks to you. My next attempt will be cedar planked salmon (both local products)for my in-laws, so I had better not screw it up..... Oh yes, a quirky thing about the grill. One ignitor uses a common (cheap) AA battery, but the side burner uses an AAA battery (even stranger is that the hole in the SS panel for this seems designed for the AA sized ignitor). Finally I hope that THS will reconsider their subscription fee decision (hey, a little more advertising is better than that) because it will kill the forum as an important meeting place for many of those who have a lot to share.

The NG/Liability may mean that if the unit explodes after you convert it to natuarl gas, they don't want to hear about it. However, I suspect, depending on your state consumer laws, that if any mishap or injury that occurs that can be traced to a manufacturing or design defect could be assigned to Virco as a liability, regardless of what the paperwork that accompanies the kit says. I'm not a lawyer so don't take this as legal advice. Virco also would have no control over faulty natural gas building lines or extensions, so maybe this is what they are most concerned about, as well as improper kit installation. I think there is more danger in going from a natural gas setup to a propane setup, however, as propane packs 2.5 times the BTU's per volume as natural gas, and it's at a lot higher pressure, so if you hood up propane to a unit set up for natural gas, you can wind up melting it down or worse.

I noticed that Costco is selling a slightly different version of the Virco this year. The main changes are it now has two storage drawers that roll on ball bearings, two doors (the one on the left stores the tank and has a paper towel hanger on the door, and the door on the left is for storage. It also has a little tray you can pull out for wood chips for adding some smoke. My 8 year old Weber Genisys ran out of gas last week and Home Depot does not carry the filled tanks with the QDC (Quick Disconnect) fittings any more. That did not help the chops that were sitting on a cold grate. I told my wife it was an omen and she agreed to let me buy the new Virco at Costco. An hour later, we were at Costco, but they were sold out. Such is life. In the mean time, I've changed the fitting on my trusty old Weber and I'm back grilling several times a week till Costco gets the new Virco back in stock. Has anyone seen or purchased the new style Virco? The info here has very handy.

A friend of mine and I both purchase Weber Grills Silver B and C respectively. I am very happy with my Silver C. My friend wishes he had spent the extra $50 on side burner. If you have the small amount of extra space, which is probably only the size of the side burner ( Aprox. 1 foot) and where you are buying the product there is not much of a sale price differential, then it seems like it would be worth the peace of mind to know that you will be happy. Also, that little extra room give you a place to put thing when you are not using the side burner. As far as cast iron grates are concerned. I am extremely happy with how easy it is to clean there porcelain grates. I use Amways stainless steel non- scratching scouring pad.. They make cleaning these grate totally a non-issue, the other ordinary household tools in my house did not work as well on the porcelain grates or stainless rotisserie. In fact, I am looking for someone who sells this Amway product. Amway's one box lasted us for more that five years at minimal cost. My friend also has porcelain grates which he is happy with, however like bsbbq he thinks the cast iron might work better with certain foods like steaks. We might end up splitting the cost of the cast iron grates set so we can both have cast iron and porcelain grates. I believe the cost of the cast iron grates at Home Depot are under $50 with porcelain grates being slightly less at other stores., so either way you go it will not cost you a lot to change your mind. On the main issue of buying a Weber Silver series grill, whatever your pocket book can afford and your space will allow, like myself I am sure you will be happy with your Weber purchase decision. However, I would like to let you know that I live in Southern California near the beach where the temperature is moderate and I donÂt have a wind problem, that might be a worthwhile question to find out if the Weber Grills are wind friendly.
