42 inch counter depth refridgerator help please

Back to the drawing board on the refridge/freezer. We want a 42 inch counter depth built in or close to built in (24-26 inches wide?) -- We dont want to spend the $$ for a sub zero. Do we have other options besides KA ? I was looking at french door kitchen aid-- looks like the cheapest I see for it is about $5900. ANyone know of others that are around or less than that price? If i wait another month or two do you think other makers are coming out with these? PS we love french door look.

Bosch, Electrolux, JennAir. Possibly LG, but I'd have to check. SubZero is overated--repair prone. $5900 to $6900 is about right...

I'm in NJ- but i dont think jen air or LG have 42 inch Cabinet depth? not sure about Bosch and Electrolux. Any model numbers? Stainless Steel -

We just purchased a KitchenAid counter depth french door model with bottom freezer and water dispenser inside the refrigerator. This model is slightly taller than others and offers more space in the fridge and freezer. It is engery star rated with an annual estimated energy cost of $41. Very good for this size unit. The model numbers in this series start with KFC and is one of Kitchenaid's newest and most energy efficient models. We like it.

I vote minera to provide contrast. Does this darker color pick up the darker veining in your marble? I think that would be very pretty. I also like the minera and the nougat together in your photo. I see that it is hard to photograph the minera. It also looks like a soft dark color and not harsh. I definitely don't like the photo above this post with the dark modern cabinets.

Thanks for the measurements, antiquesilver. Lots of good ideas here. I really wish we could recess it, but that is just not possible in our house. However some nice DIYer will read this post and learn from our inattention to detail. This is just not like us...We sweat all the details, but this one just passed us by. Too much going on with a toddler and a baby! We currently have a old "Kenmore 20" (as in 20 years old and probably 20 cubic feet). We are going to play around with that and the cabinets when we install to see what will work for us. On the positive side, at least I wont be downsizing if we decide on a counter-depth frig bc most of them are about 20 cubic feet anyway!

This is a freestanding fridge, so it does not affect the value of your house (or can be swapped out for the pictures if you have to sell). That care taken care of, measure carefully. Remember that many full depth fridges still need air circulation in the back, so make sure you're looking at the full footprint numbers, rather than the box depth. Draw it out on the floor with masking tape. If you're not in the space yet, do it where you are, and make tape versions of the nearby cabinets and island too. Fill with boxes. See if walking around the stick-outy fridge bugs you. See if you bump into it a lot. Because that wall is there, no matter what depth fridge you have, it's going to have to stick out so a left-of-picture hinged door can open completely or have a single door opening between you and the working part of the kitchen. This can actually be useful, because you can dump things on the island, but snack raiders and condiment snarfers can be more or less outside of the kitchen while they root around in the fridge. Play around with the possibilities and the tape and boxes, and you'll soon figure out which you want. There are pluses and minuses of each, but it's how you and your family with use it and what will please or annoy you that matters. That's different for everybody.

Not a french door model, but if you can live without stainless steel, the 42'' side-by-side GE Profiles run around $4300. (Add another $1000 to get it in stainless.)

Jenn-air and dacor should be avoided. K/A's side by sides should be less than $5900. Thermador has one that is the same as K/A. GE Monogram and Profile. Viking. Electrolux has one these days too...The lowest I think you'll see price-wise is the Profile and the K/A both running in the low $4000 range(for overlay)

I love my 42 inch SXS SubZero, without the outside water/ice. It is one of the best things in my remodeling project. I paid $5000, in July 2007. It keeps my food fresh for a longer time.

At that width there are only "built-in" models. BTW, LG and Electrolux don't have 42" units.

Electrolux makes two 42" refrigerators: a "panel ready" model (E42BS75ETT) and a stainless steel model (E42BS75EPS).

We paid around $5700 for the KA 48 inch wide counter depth fridge w/water/ice on the outside of the door. I love it! I thought it would be huge but it isn't so bad. No problems so far. Got it last July.
