Adjusting Virco flame

Anyone now the proper way to adjust the flame on the Virco? On high the tips are orange... The Manual states to call support phone number, I was wondering if anyone has done this prior to calling....Thanks...

Called support and they said to open the airbleeder behind the main 3 valves.... I opened them up fully and it helped alot, but I still can see the orange tips... I guess i have to live with it right?

I had the same problem after opening the air bleeder fully. I called them and they will send me a set of burners with smaller orifices (I think), I saw a comment on another thread that it reduces the BTU, but that person got all blue with that fix

I just bought one at lunch today, I'm in Salt Lake City, UT (72nd South and I-15 store). I've been tracking them for about a month now. They recieved 12 in yesterday (Sunday the 11th of June), and when I got mine, there were 6 left on the floor plus the floor model. I'm not sure if there were any more in the back, but I didn't ask. I wondered why there was such a frenzy to buy this grill, until I actually saw it. I've been shopping around for a grill for about three months. I have already fabricated a built in island where it will be istalled by myself, built with steel studs which will be stuccoed and tiled on top. Up until I first heard about this grill, I was sold on the Beefmate 2000 Series head and Stainless Hood, totaling about $750, but the Virco blows it away. If anyone cares, I should have pictures of my island w/ grill soon.

zbull, I can only give you my experience. I too had excessive yellow flames with LP. Even after adjusting the venturis open all the way there was still some yellow tips, but it didn't seem to affect the cooking any. I had read some posts from one or two others that had a similar problem. They had contacted Virco and received smaller orfices to compensate and it seemed to solve the problem. I am at a higher altitude than many (4500) and I atributed this to the problem. When I received my conversion kit I noticed the size of the orifice was 1.70 mm which, not to be too technical, converts to about 16000 BTU output, not the 20K that the burners are rated at. I actually found this to work rather well for me as I am getting nice blue flames. I had to adjust my venturis all the way closed after installing my conversion kit, because the increased air supply was not allowing the gas to travel all the way to the end of the burner tube where the ignitor was. I only discovered this after lighting the burners by hand and noticing the flames did not go all the way to the end of the tube. Once I closed the venturis, this problem was solved and the burners lit fine again. I could probably increase the size of the orifice to both regain my BTU's and be able to open the venturis a bit, but I am getting plenty of heat. By my estimates with an oven thermometer, I am getting about 600 at the grates! More than enough to sear any cut of anything for me. I don't mean to get too technical, but it is more than just a yes or no answer. The bottom line, I think, is that the orifices they send you are undersized for the BTU's that the grill is rated for, and if you have 7" of gas pressure (same as I did) then you should have similar results. I think I might try and drill the orifices out one size larger, according to the charts, this should increase my BTU's to 18K per burner. Well see though. I hope this has helped to some degree.

There are 2 separate orifices for your burners. The ones supplying the inner burner are too big. You need to contact the people who did the retrofit and get them to come back and put in properly-sized orifices for the inner rings of the burners. I do not have a manual for your range as it was made back when Wolf residential ranges were still made by the commercial manufacturer, but if the burner design hasn't changed, or if, specifically, the same orifices used today will fit in your range, then you need: Part number 800882 Orifice, Inner Burner, Natural Gas Order 4 of them. The guys who did the NG mod likely put in too big an orifice on the front side of the burner, which is what controls the flow to the inner burner ring.

My Virco cooks great! However I have still had yellow flames even after adjusting the burners. They are blue in the beginning but get yellow when the grill heats up. After reading your email I called Virco and they sent me smaller orifices (Not the whole burner assembly.). Does anyone know where they get installed?

From earlier posts:
I swapped the original 130(20,000 BTU) orifices on the main burners for the smaller 115(15,000 BTU) orifices supplied by Virco due to very yellow flame with wide open venturis here in Denver. The flame is very nice(all blue) on both high and low settings. I checked the temp with a probe type thermometer (the hood unit is questionable)
through the rotis. opening and was hitting 550 after 15mins. with 2 burners on. I did notice that the flame did get a little more yellow the longer the grill was on-not near as bad as before.

Orifice replacement- 1st-remove the burners. At the rear-bottom of the burner there is a nut and washer which needs to be removed from the stud welded to the bottom of the burner. At this point the burner is loose. Lift/twist the burner up and back (away from the front or the grill) to remove the burner. 2 of mine came right out, one had to be manipulated to get it out. If you look where the burner inlet was set around the valve, you will see the brass orifice facing directly to the rear of the grill. I used a small(don't remember the size-deep socket) to remove. This all took about 20 minutes. Good luck.

Keep in mind people that the blue flame everyone is trying to achieve will only occur when one is not cooking and in perfectly calm conditions. Add any wind and there goes your fuel to air mixture. Then add your meat and all the juice and debris falling on and around the elemnets will also disrupt the flame and produce orange colors.

when I started this thread i was experiencing the yellow flame even after opening vents. What i did not notice was that my tank was 80% consumed. I switched to a full tank and Blue flame on high was achieved. Dont know why, maybe full tank is newer style...
