Best Drip Coffee Maker You've Ever Had
Comments (27)I'm a big fan of my Chemex pour-over. There are for sure some downsides. Most notably, it's not a push a button and leave sort of deal. Due to this, though, you control the water temperature, and pour, because it's your own hand doing it. It also uses proprietary filters that aren't the easiest to get. I live in downtown Boston and have found a few places within walking distance that carry them. But it's not a matter of going to your local supermarket and grabbing them off the shelf. Coffee geeks also will note often that said proprietary filters impart a "papery" taste into the coffee. I do a rinse with about a cup of hot water and then dump it down the drain before I add my grounds and that takes care of any sort of taste. The final plus? I think it looks beautiful sitting on my counter :)...See MoreBest Coffee maker?
Comments (26)ejbrymom, we also have the Cuisinart and it also started turning off randomly and then not turning on at all when you use the "on" switch. However, I learned about a workaround online. It's kind of a pain (especially if you want to make three pots a day), but while you are searching for your perfect coffeemaker you can give it a try. Instead of using the "on" switch, use the timer (just set it to go on in one minute). For some reason, at least on many of these defective machines, if you turn it on that way it works properly (brewing the entire pot and keeping it hot for two hours, rather than randomly turning itself off or never brewing the coffee at all). Good luck!...See MoreISO:electric tea kettle with auto cut off
Comments (11)You can use a coffee maker to make hot water. Just leave out the coffee. When the water gets hot, the thermostat flips to a keep warm setting. One caveat: Turn the pot off when the water gets low. An electric, thermostatically controlled, tea kettle probably better suits your needs. Years ago, I had a gas range from Sears that had one burner with a sensor - I believe it was marketed as "A burner with a brain". This was a thermostatic device that rested against the bottom of a pan or kettle. It adjusted the flame to maintain a user set temperature. If this was set to 150 F, conceiveably, it would keep the burner from melting the bottom of a kettle if the water boiled away....See MoreTechnivorm coffee maker
Comments (42)We have the Technivorm Mocchamaster, as I have said above, and also bought the Baratza Virtuoso grinder. These purchases were made about a year ago. Although I love my Technivorm, I don't think the Baratza is for most people. 1. If you use oily type of beans (dark roast), I would say your chances of getting the machine to stall will be about 100% in the course of a month. In addition, if you want very fine coffee for espresso, you will have to recalibrate the grinder. There are instructions to do so, and the company will help- but might mess up your other settings for drip coffee. I know of 3 people that have had the same problems as we have. Don't get me wrong- I still think it grinds a mean cup of coffee. In the course of a year we have contacted the company about 3x. Once they had to exchange the grinds cup due to an engineering flaw... that was on every grinder. 2. After the calibration, it never worked the same. So.. now we use it strictly for drip. We still have to tilt the machine, and pound it a bit due to the oily beans.. but eventually it gets ground. Have a look at the coffee geek website to see what others say about all the products. It is very helpful....See Moreweissman
