best way to grill on gas...HELP!!!

We have a cheap gas grill from KMART I need tips... every time we grill meat its burnt on outside a bloody on inside (we are a MEDIUM/WELL family. What am I doing wrong??? I have wasted alot of money on burgers &steaks also too if we sit and cut open the meat and it bleeds there goes dinner!!Even if I put it back on the grill everyone is grossed and refuse to eat...but I dont have $$$ to buy a good grill like a WEBER...Can we get through this summer?? Hopefully with some good grilling TIPS! thanks Eileen

It seems to me that turning down the fire and cooking the meat longer would be the simplest suggestion. That should resolve your issue, unless you are already cooking with the heat lower. Then, maybe you are getting flareups? Possibly with the lid down and aren't noticing them (flareups) and they are charring your meat before the inside cooks. Is this a newer grill? Maybe one of the newer Charbroils that don't have many (if any) briquettes? Maybe it is an older grill that has a cracked burner? I have an older Sunbeam that, once it heated up, a large flame would come out of one part of the burner that was damaged and would cook very quickly in that one place. You might examine the grill and it's components and make sure you don't have a situation like this occuring. It seems to me that with the results you are getting, it has to be because of too much fire too quickly. So, either you are haveing flareups that are going unattended, the burner has a crack in it (causing a very hot spot), or you are just cooking on too high of heat. Once you get the heat problem figured out, you might consider investing in one of those meat thermometer forks. I bought one a couple of years ago from K-Mart on clearance for $5.00. It has been a great investment and works very good to get your meat at just the right doneness. I hope this helps. Good luck.

You might try boiling the meat first, until it is well done, and then putting in on the grill for a finish.

Wow, there's an open ended question! You may find the fastest way to get started is to do some research on this forum for prior posts, as there is a HUGE body of knowledge here. If you review these you'll have an understanding of ventilation which already will far exceed what your average appliance salesman has. PS: one thing confusing on your post: are you saying you have not decided whether to put your range against the wall or on a central island? If that's the case, from a ventilation standpoint it's a no-brainer: wall mount hood will far outperform island hood, all other things being equal.

My entire county now requires heated make up air. Neighboring counties also have the same requirements and I have heard the rest of this state (Michigan) will follow suit. Discharging the makeup air into the return ducts without conditioning first is not allowed here. Many have reported than most counties in Minnesota follow the same code and it is likely that most colder weather climates will do the same. I called several contractors and installed price was close to 7k. Besides the initial expense this unit draws a whopping 10,000 watts when running. I wonder how much it costs to run a 10,000 watt appliance for a couple hours? Here is an interesting read about makeup air. http://www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/blogs/dept/musings/makeup-air-range-hoods If anyone thinks their furnace can keep up with dumping 1200 cfm into the return ducts, think about it this way. Lets assume you have a 2400 square foot house with 10 foot ceilings. Thats 24,000 cubic feet. Your 1200 cfm fan will replace all of the air in your house in 20 minutes. Can your furnace keep up with that? If you are in a cold weather climate you will either have to buy the 7,000 dollar unit, or buy a bigger furnace.

bhh, I've used Mountain Dew to "beer" can too.. Sue, yes, just as Ann is describing..How did it go? I realize the brining is out for you..however, if you make that rub recipe without salt it'll still be very tasty..that smoked paprika is the key. I don't brine the chickens when I do the Smokey recipe, I rub the chickens(I always do 2 at a time.) down with the Smokey Rub, slide them into gallon ziplocs and let set a few hours to overnight. Follow the recipes just omit the salts. :0) Oh and I haven't tried the Spatchcock directions..just the Smokey BBQ Beer Can, Bourbon butter recipe..We love it..and that's the bbq sauce I now make for everything..Takes mere minutes and is so tasty.

Best liner for range hood above a huge Wolf stove with grill?

After much research, I just ordered the Best by Broan liner for inside of my custom hood. Will order a Broan blower (either inline or exterior. Appliance salesman and contractor will work together to let me try inline first, and if it doesn't perform well enough, get the exterior.) Link to the liner is below. Best by Broan is Boran's upgraded line. This was a really important decision, so I would've paid anything. I looked at every high-end brand, and found that the Best by Broan was the only one that met my specific needs. I chose it because: 1) The option to attach to an inline (this goes in the attic) blower, or an exterior wall or roof mounted blower. These 2 blower options allow for quieter operation, and, especially in the case of the exterior blower, more CFMs for greater smoke capture and removal. 2) The size. 58"+ is 18" wider than our 36" Wolf with griddle. It might be overkill, but ours will be mounted higher than the ideal 30-36", and I wanted the extra width for capture. 3) The baffles. Easier to clean than mesh, like the look, and GWers explained that baffles are probably quieter than mesh. They also explained that the wider the baffled liner, the quieter, b/c the air can rush into more baffles at one time. This was another reason I chose the 58" width. 4) 4 fan speeds, 4-level lighting, lights and controls are well laid out, like the four 50w halogens. 5) The wall switch option. It's important to note, if you want a wall switch to operate your blower, that some brands either don't offer one, or the wall switch actually disables some functions (like multi-level lighting) once it's installed. This was the case with a basic Broan, which is why we chose instead the Best by Broan. 6) During decision time, the Broan/Best by Broan tech department was really helpful, knowledgable, and available. Sounds like the grill is not getting enough heat. A common reson is that since the addition to the opd valve to propane tanks it is now required that the tanks be opened very slowly.If the gas is released too quickly the opd valve will trigger and block the flow of the gas.You will get some but not much.To reset a triggered valve disconnect the tank -allow to sit for ten minutes and reconnect.Open it slowly from now on until 3/4's opened.Let grill preheat for 10 minutes on high before adding food.
