How best to sell larger antiques?

I have this inherited stuff that has become a burden to me -- too big, not my style -- that I'd like to sell and yet not get taken to the cleaners while doing so. Stuff includes a recamier, a big honking old grandfather clock, a massive 19th century writing desk (very cool), etc., none of it in very good condition.

I could put it on Craigslist but I'd have no idea how to price it. I could take it to a consignment shop but i always feel kind of ripped off by them.

My latest maybe stupid idea is to put them on eBay, with local pick up only -- and, at the same time, put up a Craigslist ad with a link to the eBay auction. IOW, the craigslist ad wouldn't have a price in it; it only serve as an introduction to the piece, with a link to where you can bid on it.

Has anyone here tried that? Think it'd work? Are there any other *good* options that you can think of?

Thanks!
