convert my grill from LP to Natural Gas

i have a char broil lp gas grill and was wandering what it would intail to convert it from lp to natural gas, thanks in advance

Weber sells (or at least used to) a kit to convert their LPs to natural gas. Contact Char-Broil to see if they have one.

If you are looking to diy, I know the holes on the burners need to be enlarged but not much else.

You will need new burners with bigger holes, since natural gas has fewer BTUs for a given volume than propane.

Thanks for the quick response. After posting my initial message, I called my local gas company and explained what I had done. They told me that I needed to remove the regulator on the grill. They cited the reason as the regulator that is currently on the large Prop. tank will regulate the flow of gas to the grill. They mentioned that if I left the regulator on the grill, that the flow of gas would be less than needed to operate the grill correctly. Does this sound like it is correct to you? Hi Emily - No experience here with conversions - factory or field - but just want to throw out there that if BTUs are a factor in your decision making I recommend you check spec sheets to see the loss, if any, for your particular choices. And by that I mean model, not just brand. Even within a model I recall looking at a Viking cooktop a while back whose BTU drops varied between something like 0% and 20% depending on the particular burner.

My recommendation would not be install a combination boiler. In my opinion it is best to keep it simple and have a separate hot water heater. If you get a traditional 40 or 50 gallon hot water tank then you will have hot water during power outages and have an appliance that will last about 15 years. Are any of the contractors doing a load calculation? If you live an older house there is a good chance your current boiler is over sized. The boiler needs to also be sized by the number of radiators. The basement adds very little heat load if it mostly underground. You should not need to increase the size because you are finishing the basement. If you want good temperature control in the basement then make it a separate zone.

Looking at the Thermador Planning Guide, there is neither an LP nor a NG conversion kit for any of the Pro Grand ranges. Pro Harmony Dual Fuel have an LP conversion kit, but the all-gas ones do not (nor is there a natural gas conversion kit.) You will need to contact Thermador support to find out what nozzles and regulator will be needed. It's more than 6 easily-accessible nozzles, too, because you have to convert the oven burners as well in your all-gas range. Plus the griddle or grill, depending on what that additional location is. Once you start getting into the regulator and manifold on a gas appliance, you would be wise to have a gas-certified technician do the work.

I have converted several by just drilling out the jets. I don't think the heat value of the gas is as important as the difference between gas pressure from the propane regulator and gas line pressure.
Problem may be in finding a set of number drills and determining how big to drill it.

DH enlarged the holes on a DIY conversion, which did not seem to heat as quickly or as hot. However when we purchased a ready-to-go natural gas, I notice a big difference in how things cooked.
