30' Electric Freestanding Range - Double ovens? Induction?

Hi,

I'd appreciate any advice and suggestions on 30" electric freestanding ranges. (I like the look of the slide-in ranges, but my understanding is that slide-ins need some countertop in the back and the counters need to be a specific height...so I don't think one would work).

I'd love a range with 2 ovens (no double wall ovens in the foreseeable future for us). Anyone have a range with 2 ovens? Thoughts? I like the idea of induction but hesitate at the limited selection of freestanding ranges.

We aren't keen on Maytag or Frigidaire and hesitate on GE Profile due to friends' mixed experiences. Our options:

Electrolux 30" freestanding double oven

Jenn Air 30" freestanding double oven

Kenmore Elite 30" induction with warming drawer

I believe the Electrolux has the largest size ovens and it looks fantastic with lots of bells & whistles but I can't find much feedback. Have heard good things about Jenn Air, but have also seen tons of horrible reviews re: reliability online. Not sure about the reliability and quality of the Kenmore Elite Electric Induction...

Finally, I wonder if we should save up for a Viking or other pro-style range? Is that worth it if it's an electric? I'd love a duel fuel but right now it's not an option. The new Viking Induction Electric range looks great but I've read that it's wildly expensive ($6,000+) and does not have a second oven or warming drawer...

Any advice would be most appreciated!!

The Kenmore induction range is an Electrolux but the basic convection; not all the bells and whistles. pbrisjar has one and her experience is... mixed. Do you search and you'll find a couple of threads with feedback about it.

Most Sears ranges are GE or Frigidaire/Electolux. The Jennair is Maytag/Kitchenaid. You do not have a lot of companies to choose from anymore due to consolidation in the appliance industry. Sears deos not manufacture any appliances, they do what is amost subcontracting out all appliances.lawnmowers, tractors, tools, ect. Maytag is the same company as Kitchenaid/Jennair. Bosch is Thermador. Samsung makes most of the GE french door refrigerators, so there really are only a few companies manufacturing appliances. I really think the best thing to do anymore is select features that are important and buy the appliance along with the longest extended warranty available....

Convection is something I use frequently and would recommend. From what I hear, the warming drawers at this price point are not worth the money/space. Regarding the center burner... If I had a choice, I would rather spend the money on 4 good burners (15k BTU+) than 4-5 mediocre burners, but in this price range, they all seem to be a similar setup (probably built by the same 2 companies). I have a hard time envisioning a decent size griddle getting evenly heated with any of these center burners. The Frigidaire has slightly higher burner output on average, but then there's that CNB to deal with.

Just wanted to follow up and let you know that I bought the Electrolux, double oven, electric range. My local Best Buy store had a floor model for sale with a few minor dings, I got one heck of a deal. I've been using it for over a month now and I absolutely love it. Though the burners are not induction, they heat up very quickly and the rest of the glass top stays fairly cool. I use the keep warm burner almost every day and the burner layout is great, no difficulties so far with using three or four burners at once. The glass does require frequent scrubbing and polishing with the cleaner and sponge that came with the oven, but it is still much easier to clean than a traditional range. Having the glass top also means extra counter space when needed. I do use my cast iron on it, but I'm very careful not to slide the pans around since the manufacturer warns that cast iron will scratch the glass. The stainless steel trim is very easy to clean, no polish required for a spot free finish. The side panels are not stainless steel, but gray, they blend in much better than black. The oven lights are super bright, which is wonderful for checking on your food without opening door. The rolling racks are also very nice. The convection is almost perfect, stuff right up against the door may be slightly less golden brown than everything else, but if you don't overfill the oven, it's not a problem. The large oven is somewhat slow to pre-heat, though there are pre-set temperatures that are much faster and the oven retains heat ridiculously well (it will still be hot hours after turning it off). I have only used about half of the oven features, but so far, everything works as advertised and meets or exceeds my expectations. Using the drawer oven with cookie sheets is awkward because you can't just slide them out, I suggest using oven mitts rather than pot holders to prevent burns, but, IMO, it would be much worse to have to bend over that low for heavy pots and pans, as you would if the larger oven was on the bottom. So I still prefer this set up to freestanding double oven competition. The bottom oven also does not have a light, not necessary, but it would be nice. I use the second oven all the time, don't know how I lived without it :) In short, I have no real complaints about this oven. I only paid $1700 for it. I feel like I got a good deal. Had I paid full price, I would still be satisfied with it's performance, though I don't know if I would still feel it was worth every penny. I did upgrade from a piece of junk 1980's Admiral stove that was so far past it's last leg, it wasn't even funny. So I don't have recent experience with another range of comparable quality. Going back several years, I have used a good quality Whirlpool and a GE Profile, which performed very well but lacked the bells and whistles that the Electrolux has. Cooking on induction absolutely rocks. Immediate response, consistant temps--it's wonderful. I hate to clean, but cleaning up an induction cooktop rocks just as much as cooking on one. Nothing ever burns onto the cooktop, ever. Make a huge mess. Swipe with a soapy rag, swipe again with a clean, dry rag, shiney and clean. Done. Haul hubby out to a different demo. If you can find a Miele or Wolf showroom, go to one of those. Then he can be impressed with the performance but shocked at the price point, and you can "settle" for something much less expensive that works well but with fewer bells and whistles, and he'll be impressed with your research and happy to come in on budget. And you can be a happy cook with a spotless range and very little effort. ;-p Cj

Have you tried a single over with a Microwave/oven combo?

Only downside is that you cannot use the microwave until the over has cooled down

Thanks for the responses so far. I guess I wasn't aware of the extent of the consolidations that have taken place in the appliance industry!
Unfortunately, the microwave idea wouldn't work for us - I'd love a range with two ovens that can bake at different temps simultaneously.

Does anyone own an Electrolux electric range? Would love feedback!

I had the same problem as you. I really need the two ovens but didn't have the space for a double wall oven because I would lose counter space for the range. Look at the velos hood microwave/convection/steam/grill offered at sears. that's the way I went and am able to get the best of both worlds!

There was feedback on several earlier threads regarding the electrolux slide in. Most really liked the looks and the oven interior, but disliked the range top. Several had problems with the top scratching easily and the stainless part that divides the cooktop part with the controls being easily scratched. A few threads on another forum were also noting the same issues. A couple stated they would not buy it again. I have noted in sores that they are always smeary and scratched. I took my post to lowes and was requested not to place them on top of the range. Huh? Salesman told me he had just cleaned the top. I asked why I should not place my pans on the top of the range when that is what I would be doing several times a day if I bought one. His response....They are a b**ch to keep clean and they are supposed to attempt to keep all of the items clean.
I have a 10 year old GE free standing range. it was made for sears. I have never been careful with it nor am I one who thoroughly cleans it after every meal. Sometimes it is very difficult to clean, but it never has scratched and when I do take the time to clean it well, it looks almost brand new. I really think the glass manufacture has something to do with this. Mine is a ceran top. I am intending to buy and=other range with a ceran top.

Anything new here? Is the Electrolux the only 30 in freestanding induction with double ovens?

I'm not sure the oven on the floor position of the Electrolux will even be worth using. Not sure what they are thinking there.
An empty drawer for more storage might be more appealing use of space.

I would really prefer a 30" double oven induction range with the smaller oven in the top position and I don't see any.

I have had the Maytag double oven with glasstop range for 7 years. We use the smaller top oven most frequently. I would love it if they would come out with the same oven with an induction cooktop. As with most electric cooktops heat control is an issue.

That's exactly what I'm looking for too. I love my Maytag double oven with the glasstop but we're moving and I'm looking at replacing it with a stainless one (the current one is white) but I'd love the induction cooktop. I wonder if they're planning on coming out with one. I should contact them to find out.
