JennAir Counter Depth French Door

I need advice on two appliances.

Our reno will put the refrigerator and dishwasher just 12 " apart, so I'm thinking to stay with the same brand. Good idea?

Looking at Counter Depth French Door Frig.

Kitchen Aids or Jenn Airs?????

I don't think Bosch makes a CD French Door.

I'm down to the wire!!!!!!

We put a JA CD fridge in our remodel nearly 3yrs ago - I just can't say enough good things about this fridge - LOVE IT!
We have a Viking Range so the JA CD w/Prof SS handles was an added bonus -
I also thought it would be a beast to keep clean w/all the kiddies - Microfiber w/warm water looks great

I have all Jenn-Air appliances, ranging in age from a 10-year old dual-fuel slide-in downdraft range, to the French door fridge and dishwasher, which are probably about 5 years old. I have no major complaints with any of them. The range is really loud on the convection setting (which is all I use), the downdraft doesn't work as well as I'd like and every once in a great while the fridge is a little loud. All are what I consider to be relatively minor complaints and probably common to all appliances at one point or another. I'm always a little shocked by the bad reviews Jenn-Air gets. That's not been my experience (and I certainly hope it stays that way).

The French door design of this refrigerator is seriously flawed. If you open the right door first, which most people will do, then open the left door, a normal next step, and close the right door, the left door will smash against the glass of the right door when you try to close it. The problem lies in the fact that the hinge attached to the left door does not retract far enough to clear the right door. This is my third French-door refrigerator (other brands) and I have never had this problem before. Here is what Jennair has to say in their user guide: “ There are two refrigerator compartment doors. The doors can be opened and closed either separately or together. There is a vertically-hinged seal on the left refrigerator door. ■ When the left side door is opened, the hinged seal automatically folds inward so that it is out of the way.” I bought this fridge over a year ago and have had at least three different repairmen come more than six times to try and repair it. They have changed the hinge twice, to no avail. They have installed shims to level the back of the fridge, no improvement. I called again today and they are sending a new technician to view the situation. I am not holding out much hope.

we got a CD FD kitchen aid fridge 3 years ago. and yes - it is a rebranded whirlpool. we had a chance to compare whirlpool, kitchenaid, and viking side-by-side at the time of purchase in the same store on the floor. they are all the same with different accessories - like rubber mat for milk in kitchen aid, heavier handle for viking etc. recently we saw that Bosch "came up" with counter depth french door fridge. the reason we ended up with kitchenaid in the first place is because three years ago Bosch didn't have a CD french door fridge - all our other appliances were Bosch, would have been nice to get a fridge from Bosch as well, probably could have negotiated a deeper package discount. But no - we couldn't. So we went to look at this new Bosch CD FD fridgein January - ha! it's the same kitchen aid we have. Yes, LED lighting is "nicer" but... $700 more than we paid for KA. Store associate said - yes, they are all whirlpool.

My last counter depth Fridge was a Kitchen Aid Architect side by side and I found it to be very reliable (owned 10 years with no service)! I am currently looking for a CD for my new home and have decided that a French door would be a better layout. In terms of price you can purchase a nice side by side in your price range and I would recommend a Kitchen Aid or Whirlpool. Regarding the French door, which are more expensive, I am considering an LG, GE and Samsung but have not owned those brands before. Seems there are a lot of "haters" for almost every make and model, so it's hard to decide based on internet reviews. According to Consumer Reports, all the manufacturers have 10-20% service issues, so one can only hope the appliance they buy falls in the 80-90% in terms of reliability. You might want to factor an extended warranty into your purchase price. The big box stores all have appliance sales right now, and there is a FD GE with decent reviews that is exactly $2k. I wish the Kitchen Aid FD model I like was in my price range, but unfortunately it is not. Let me know what you decide and why. I need to order my appliances by tomorrow and can't decide. Good luck.

We strongly considered that fridge, the floating glass black one with the stainless handles. It's drop-dead gorgeous. But we ultimately went with a GE profile CD FD because the Jenn-Air and its clones just seemed to be poorly built inside. Racks didn't glide smoothly, nothing seemed as solid as it should.

I have to say, though, that the GE in little more than a year has cracked several bins. The cover over the inside ice maker keeps falling off. It's aggravating, as much as these things cost I'd think the quality should be better than it is.

I have the JA and love it.........have the KA dishwasher. Have then 3 years now and no problems with them.

Make sure you check out the Jenn-Air in the store. I recently looked at one and noticed that there is a lip that sticks out of the door on the freezer. It seemed to be in the way when reaching down into the freezer and made it look smaller.

Nancysc, I love your black appliances, did you purchase any other Jenn-Air appliances, microwave, or range by chance?? Do you prefer black over SS?? My cabinet color is similar to yours, my granite choice will most likely be verde peacock. What is your granite color?? Love everything in your kitchen, thanks for more details.
