We are starting a master bath remodel soon-- likely will have subway tile, mosaic w/mixed glass, ceramic, stone components, and trim pieces--- can we use the same grout for all types of tile? Ordered sample of the mosaic from company that doesn't have local distributer and he recommened grount that has glass beads in it for the bling effect-- can't remember name==but said it really only worked with glass tiles/elements so a ceramic/porceline subway would not really benefit-- I just want the same color throughout-- one that doesn't turn and doesn't mildew--we are in coastal FL and humid is our life... Not sure who will be doing the tile work so can't talk to the installer yet for his recommendations/product experience

Our bath remodel was completed in October. We didn't use epoxy grout. I was very concerned about mildew and the contractor recommended the Tile Doctor Shield System. It's a 3-step system that you apply once a year and then use the "maintain" product once a month. He said we wouldn't have to clean the shower. The products are applied very quickly with little effort; the monthly maintenance application takes about 10 min. No mildew so far and I haven't had to clean the shower. (I am not affiliated with Tile Doctor in any way.) I agree with the comment about ventilation. We use a squeegee and towel to dry the shower after each use including the floor. Also we leave the shower door open and turn on the ceiling fan for a while to dry everything off really well.

Oh, yes, I also tried Zud which contains oxalic acid. In all cases I soaked the surface for 3-4 hours and for some cleaners I did overnight. So my feeling is that acids either do not work or very strong acids are needed where tile damage is likely. Given that this is a rental, I am looking for more gentle approaches.

I have a 25 yr old Kohler cast iron tub. I got used to the non-skids looking a very light gray, despite my efforts. So I just ordered on Amazon an extra large “Gorilla Grip” clear bath mat with multiple suction cups on the bottom to cover it up, haha (and actually having this mat made my 70 yr old self feel more secure). Currently, we are in the midst of a bathroom remodel and the remodeler suggested replacing the tub with another! Wha?! It’s a second floor bathroom and that tub was uber-heavy to carry up for the first remodel and I didn’t want to replace a “perfectly good” cast iron with acrylic or fiberglass. The tub was pristine other than being outdated, lol (though I swear I saw the same design at a local Kohler store when looking at other fixtures). He knew I was trying to save money so I figured his main concern were the non-slip strips, LMAO! So before the remodeling began, I tried Dawn Platinum PowerWash. Sprayed it on the non-skid area and walked away for a half hr? Came back and scrubbed just a bit with an off-brand magic eraser. 85-75% improvement. Once the remodeling is done, I’m going to try hydrogen peroxide like Jane Camero recommended back in 2017, and see if I can get it to 100%!
