We had all three of our vanities made by a local guy. Trials and tribulations aside (he had some personal issues at the time and disappeared for awhile, twice--in the middle of the builds!), we are glad we went that route. We modeled our vanities after the Sonia Europa (31.5" width and 24" width), with modifications that made the vanities work even better for us (taller overall, which made the drawers taller--win-win!). Drawers are full extension, with Blum soft close/self-close drawer glides. I find the storage space to be terrific in both the open space(s) behind the sliding doors, as well as in the drawers (in the guest bathroom I store bath and hand towels for that bathroom in the drawers).

Babka, my MIL had one of those types of medicine cabinets. I liked it, but hubby doesn't. What he is envisioning: 2 triangular corner mounted medicine cabinets, with the door being a mirror. Between the two, a mirror, either built into a frame or just mounted on the wall with a frame. The wood needs to match the vanity's wood. I installed a medicine cabinet when I did a gut remodel. It has a door that is a miniature of the doors in my bathroom vanity. I have a lot of storage in my bathroom but in my experience - or at least for my needs - nothing replaces the functionality of a medicine cabinet for smallish items that you need to access. This is especially true because I can see the label just by opening the door whereas storage in my drawers means I really can only see the tops of items that would typically be stored in a medicine cabinet. FWIW I also have a mirror that runs wall to wall from the counter to the ceiling but it has differentiated treatments so it isn't just a plain mirror like I had before the gut remodel. It's very functional and it also adds a feeling of light and space in my relatively small master bath. I have a hanging mirror in the guest bath - it's a repurposed antique stained glass window - I added a mirror in the middle. Here is my medicine cabinet and wall mirror - it might be difficult to see but the treatment on the left has mirrored pieces on top of the wall mirror in an iconic Art Deco design and the portion to the right which is where I have a "vanity" section in lieu of a second sink has additional LED lighting and a mirror portion on top of the wall mirror which is beveled. This is the guest bath which has just a hanging mirror. It doesn't have a medicine cabinet because there is no added functionality for it in the guest bath.

We have a wall cabinet above our toilet and my tall husband hates it, always thinks he’s gonna bonk his head or it’ll fall on him. It’s coming down during our next reno in favor of a bigger vanity. If you’re short maybe a wall cabinet is ok, but then you’re reaching around the toilet to get to things (don’t drop them!). I’d say it’s not ideal and would look for other options if you can.
