Anyone purchase Kitchen Appliances in the last year?

Hi I am looking for reccos for my new kitchen. We are in the beginning stage and have looked at more appliances than i care to admit. I'm getting very confused. I want to go middle of the road-- we can go higher on some items and less on some-- so please send all HAPPY/Satisfied reccos.

So with that said if you have any reccos for ANY appliances that you are HAPPY with than please tell me the model number, brand and what you like about it. We are looking for stainless steel appliances.

Refridgerator-- french door- 36 inch- freezer on bottom

Dishwasher- QUIET! With great cleaning action

Cooktop? 36 inch vs 30 inch

Double WALL Oven? 30 inch

Microwave?

Possibly Warming Drawer?

I would be GREATFUL for any feedback. Thank you in advance

Due to the falling house value market (shrinking refi cash outs), we picked up a Whirlpool side by side (our first in that category) with enamel painted silver door, the rest of appliances are SS, for $1K less than the SS version. With my Omega/Dynasty shaker cabinets in mandarin cherry and blue pearl countertop, it actually looks pretty cool, adding depth in the feel of the room, at least IMO. Love having finally in my life an in the door icemaker n filtered H20.

I bought a french door 25+ cubic foot Samsung fridge at $700 off the listed price. It has no water dispenser(I didn't really want one), but it does have an ice maker.

"How else would they know so much about all these different brands and manufacturers to speak so "expertly" on such a wide variety of them?" Oh that's easy. They're interested in garden and lawn tractors and tend to read up on everything they can on the subject, even though they don't own a particular brand and model. As Justalurker said, ral knowledge comed from actual ownership. There are a few on this forum who have owned most every brand in existence, but I think most of us are repeating what we have read from actual owners. I, for one, like to read up on the top-of-the-line GT's because they represent the best you can buy, and I like to see how well they handle different attachments, especially the ground engaging type. And what features they offer like power steering, locking diff, diesel power, hydraulically actuated deck lift and ancillary equipment (attachments). I have perused many different brand-dedicated forums to acquire this info...it's like a hobby that doesn't cost anything (until you actually buy something that is). However, I have since pretty much gone to the "dark side" and will sing the praises of the ZTR to anyone who will listen, now that I own one and see how efficient (and fun) they truly are. However, I won't try to ram them down anyone's throat....especially on a "Lawn and Garden Tractor" forum:) I must say though it is some members on this forum that have helped me to "see the light"...LOL! I have a lawn tractor but it just sits there like an old Farmall tractor put out to pasture while I go whizzing around on my ZTR ;) I have a Japanese compact tractor to handle the tiller work, and so I will never go back to lawn or garden tractor to cut grass...and that's from actual experience.....I would be tempted to pick up a nice JD 445 GT at the right price though :)

I had a 30" Berta for two years -- until 2011. I posted about it in several threads which may/may not be linked above. I'll make a few generalizations. A Berta a-g is not Wolf a-g. Berta is, relatively speaking a budget range. The styling and finish are excellent. It offers an excellent attractive value. The gas top has a continuous grate and I found it had plenty of power. The front left burner has a double stack and boils a huge pot of water for pasta very quickly. The simmer burners are good. It was lovely to cook on and I would buy a Berta gas cooktop again. Again, it's not a Wolf, not a Culinarian, not a Blue Star. Not the same price either. Cooktop drawback is the electric ignition. You need to get accustomed to this. It can be quirky and is tricky at first. Once you get the hang of it, it's ok. But it clicks. Rap on the oven is size. The oven is smaller than some other ranges because there is a hatch below it and legs. However, I cooked a 16 pound turkey in there and catered a party for 40. It's a gas oven and needs initial adjustment at the time of installation so the heat can be evened out. It exhausts from the top and the fan goes on when the oven is going. If you're standing at the stove while the oven is on, this may be an issue. If this is going in a home/apartment without central air, consider how often you would use this gas oven -- or any gas oven -- during the summer. Additionally, the oven only goes down to something like 275F. The temperature control knob is "approximate" and, I agree, this is annoying. It absolutely requires an oven thermometer. For an avid baker it might not be the right oven. All that said, those of us who have had Bertas and cooked on them usually like them. I did a huge amount of research and contacted longtime users before I bought. Everyone was quite candid about the pros and cons, but positive. I did find the hatch below the oven handy for flat equipment storage. I liked that it was on legs and I could clean underneath. I didn't care that the oven was slightly smaller than, say a Wolf, because I hate those big huge gas ovens -- so hot -- and they are so low they are almost on the floor. But that's me. Others may not agree. Again, for the price it offers a high end look and quality and good performance. At the time of my purchase I compared it to other ranges in that price range and it was a no brainer. So the question for anyone considering a Berta is: what else can you get for the same price point and how does that compare? Don't look at Wolf. It's not comparable. Don't look at Blue Star, Thermador or Culinarion. Those aren't comparable. It's not a high performance pro range. It's a home cooking European style range.

hollysprings, we run the machine about 3 times each day, which is one medium to large, one medium and one medium to small. Those 3 loads are for about 6 bath towels, two of those thicker plus other assorted laundry, usually always 'warm' and 'Cottons' 'Medium'. This is the same way we always used these GE top-load washers. MRB, perhaps the machine is doing that again : On the first machine water came out I was told because a seal on the vertical shaft got worn out, or during failure the machine tried to spin when still in the agitation cycle, or vice versa. On the replacement machine water seems to come out when there is a little too much water above the clothing, usually when we selected large, as I mentioned there are also very large and super load levels which we never use. We are not perfect, and when we judge the clothing level to be higher than it actually is and select the load accordingly too high then it might splash. Again on past machines we never had to worry about that. See it this way, both of us are college educated, I am an engineer, We should be fully qualified to operate this machine. I should not be required to study rocket science for that. None of the concerns is mentioned in the user's manual. I should be able to throw the clothing and detergent in, select what is approximately correct per the users manual, push start, and that machine does its job for 6 years without a problem. In case I pay too little for the machine, it should perhaps do a poor job washing, aka clothes staying dirty, but should not break down every month! Bernd

Thanks for the ideas. Yes that is what I need to do except we went and looked at that house again and it has not been kept up with, and has mold in the basement now, with the plants along the house shriveled up we can see cracks in the foundation and I requested that the water be turned on so we could check that that works, toilets,etc. but they didn't have it on. The plumber was there and did winterize it but they still have it for sale.How can you buy a house when the water and gas aren't even on? They knew we were close to getting our sold because my relator told their relator the other day, then today they winterize?Seems they are hiding something as the water has never been turned on anytime we have walked thru that house. Plus we know the water heater was leaking and there was water all over the basement floor too. That is probably why the water was off but sheesh you know!! If you want to sell your house you fix what has to be fixed so you can show it. Now we have our house sold and no house to buy. Nothing on the market we want. How did this happen... Got to find a place but winter is upon us and our closing is Dec 5. Whoa is me. Will keep you posted. There is a very nice house going on the auction block and it looks very nice but I bet it will go for more than we have to pay. We want to be mortgage free totally. But the taxes there are high too so this tax info will help with this house. Going to get a hold of the courthouse this week. Auction is Nov 9.

I loved my GE seran (sp?) cooktop but it was black. Liked the digital controls at the front and the fact that I could lock the elements off. Sorry, no longer live there so I can't give the model number. It was the higher end priced one; 36 inches as I wanted lots of surface. Any smaller and pot handles start climbing over each other. :-)Not bad to clean, even with a major cooked on spill. I just saw a stainless steel cooktop at the Frigidaire dealers, but not sure the brand. I think Caloric? I loved how easy it was to clean up an SS cooktop, way easier than the GE. I had a choice between solid elements and coils, so did half and half. Worked great for my cast iron pans which I had to get rid of when I got the GE.

are you looking for gas or electric cooktop? Gas - Caldera! We have the 36'' and LOVE it. Roomy for 2 people to cook at the same time, well-placed burner configuration means I can use 5 decent-size pots at once. Model number SSK365.

We have a top of the line Bosch dishwasher, which was recommended to us by several friends as the one to get if you want a really quiet one. It is really quiet and performs very well and is energy efficient to boot. Our kitchen is open to the living room (our house is small) and the dishwasher is so whisper quiet that it does not interfere with watching tv or entertaining in the living room. I can also comfortably talk on the phone or listen to the radio in the kitchen while the dishwasher is on. We also have a Bosch 30" free standing gas range with convection-capable oven that we are very happy with. Since you are in the planning stages, make sure you include a good rangehood/exhaust system in your plans. It should not be an afterthought--very important. If QUIET is important to you, consider installing the exhaust fan motor remotely, say, in the attic just inside the opening to the outside. That will keep things quiet. We did that 15 years ago and are very pleased with the result. Look at the Broan "Best" product line. They have been doing remote motor installation designs for quite a while. But there are others if you don't like them.

I've got the Kitchen Aid dishwasher model number beginning with KUD____. It is the one with the third rack for cutlery. LOVE IT. It is sooooo quiet, and the sound insulation isn't put in yet. We've been using it for about three weeks. Cleans great.

I purchased a Wolf natural gas cooktop (drop in) last year. Love this cooktop because it has a very good high (although you can find higher highs, I don't find I need them as I usually already have to turn the flame down from the high on this one when I cook) and excellent simmer (for white sauce or custards). Really love this. This is the only unit I've purchased in the past year, the others are 2.5 year old appliances since that was when I remodeled and they are all probably history by now - I don't know since not watching the books that much any more.

We just moved into our new home 2 months ago.
I have the Wolf 36"DF range. (I swear I am cooking and baking better then ever) Jenn-air FD 25cu' fridge, reg depth(we recessed the wall) I am very happy with this.
Bosch DW (very quiet) For the first couple of weeks I was disappointed in how wet everything was. I just started opening the door after it was done and when I unload it there may be a couple of plastic containers with a few water spots. GE- JEM microwave-I like the size so it doesn't stick out of the cabinet and it does what I need.
With this said, they are not as powerful as the over the range type I use to have. And the Bosch FL washer/dryer.
Took me a while to figure it out, but I am also very happy with them.

DWs -- we have the next to top of the line Bosch. It is rated only 2 Db higher in sound, has fewer cycles but still more than we need, and it was significantly less money for us. Very happy wih them and find they clean beter and dry about the same as any DW we've ever had (we have 2).

If you are going to splurge, I would probably suggest the cooktop is the first lace to do it. You wil probably use it the most. After that, I would look at how you will use the appliances and what your priorities are.

I just wanted to second the recomendation of the Bosch Dishwasher, we bought a mid range front control model on closeout last summer for $350 regularly $799 (last years model, this years replacement model only added child lockout) it is by far not only the quietest dishwasher I have owned, but also the quietest I have ever heard, it is not much louder than our fridge. Just be aware they are a bit different than traditional dishwashers, as there is no exposed heating element, instead they have a inline water heater, and due to the dirty water sensor total wash times are unpredictable.
