bosch 800 series, GE profile, or Miele Dishwasher?
Comments (4)When my kitchen remodel was done in 2006, we went with a GE Profile from Lowes that was $700. It has repaired about 7 times in the course if a year. Lowes took it back and have us store credit that we used for an Electrolux Wave Touch at $1200. It never worked right for 2 months. Lowes then refunded us back. After being without a unit for the next 2 years, I did some research and decided to go with the Miele Diamante Plus at $1500. I've had it 5 years now and would only ever go with another Miele dishwasher in the future. Even though it doesn't have a heating element, the drying is fine. Only some plastic cups will pond some water on the top, or some Tupperware items need hand dried....See MoreBosch 800 Series Dishwasher Help!
Comments (4)Extra Shine forces a 162°F sani rinse on every wash cycle - even Express - and extends the drying cycle. It's basically like selecting Sanitary and leaving the door shut for an extra couple of minutes after the cycle is done. The Auto cycle has a higher temp range than Normal so I'd probably choose Auto for everyday dishes. Your manual lists all the information on page 14 and 15. Comments (6)I have a Bosch 500 that is about 3 years old, and it's just fine on drying -- there's still water in the crevices or concave areas. No problem drying plates, glasses, pots, or pans.....Plastics dry better if there are fewer of them in the load (i.e. a lot of plastics in the load will still have some water on them, but with only a few pieces of plastic in the load, they'll be properly dry)......that's because of the way the drying cycle works, without additional heat. I actually like that better - not only is it more energy efficient, it means I can put plastics in the bottom rack, because it is no hotter than the top rack (traditionally, plastics were meant to be in the top rack only, because the heat element was in the bottom). I've also found that not opening the machine right away when it stops actually helps the plastics dry better (I suppose because there's still enough heat in the machine to dry them)....See MoreBosch Dishwashers- 500 vs. 800 series
Comments (12)Both of my daughters recently purchased the 800 series with the crystal dry. They have been very happy thus far. My older daughter uses A LOT of plastics with the kids. They are dry with the exceptions of dips and areas where water can pool. I have emptied her dishwasher a few times and find the crystal dry works very well. It is an option so you have to make sure you turn it on. I have a miele with the auto open door - not only does it open the door but it continues to circulate air to enhance the drying process. I do not know if the 500 does this or just pops the door open. I have seen a few comments from folks with the 500 with auto open door that their dishes are dry. My MIL has the 500 without the open door feature (she has had it several years). Her dishes are dry but she does not have many plastics. Hopefully someone with the 500 will chime in. I had an early 2000 model bosch in a rental house for 1+ years. Dishes were clean and dry - no complaints. It was not a fancy model but still very quiet. The 800 has a couple of different 3rd rack options that you may want to explore. Both of my daughters got the “my way rack” as they use it for bowls as they use lots of bowls. They still use the basket for cutlery and some utensils. The rack in the 500 (and some 800 models) is bascially for cutlery and some utensils. My MIL took her basket out and puts all her cutlery in the top rack as well as most of her utensils....See Moreruddycat
