Help Identifying an Antique Rocking Chair
Comments (3)Hello, thanks for the info, I do have some minor woodworking experience but wanted to ask around a little and yes I do believe this is walnut. Also worth noting the cane work can also be seen on the back( I will try posting another pic to show that),I thought I heard somewhere this usually means it was done by hand and not at a factory but I do not know enough about rocking chairs to say for sure if this is the case....See MoreAntique Rocking Chair
Comments (2)Windsor style....but with a flat not shaped seat...oak seat. likely dating from 1920 to '40 or there abouts. It's a sewing rocker. Not a lot of value...maybe $65?? Much more sentimental value than monetary value. I had my great grandmother's rocker....older than yours by a lot....but not worth a hill of beans....but my grand daughter now has it in her room....so it's her great great great grandmother's rocker! You can't buy that!! Linda C...See Moresewing/nursing rocker
Comments (1)My research says it operated under that name until the 1940's. That chair is very 1930's in style, and was probably part of a bedroom set. The value is what someone will pay....See MoreCollected, vintage, salvaged, guest bedroom.
Comments (17)Thank you all very much. I've been planning this room for 6+ years. It's in an addition that we had framed in 2008, above a gathering room that I've posted about before. We had to break through the old roof line, necessitating the short hallway/vestibule that you'll see in a couple of the pics. The crew who was framing didn't exactly share my vision for the storage spaces tucked under the eaves and in the corners, so I've had to rework some of their "No one will ever see this, or if they do we'll be long gone" building techniques. I commented on another thread that before my DD & SIL took over the room, I spent several sunny afternoons sitting in the rocking chair, admiring the tree and enjoying the feeling of accomplishment. The newlyweds are very happy up there, in their own little world. :)...See Morelindac
