Questions about Miele Dishwasher
Comments (3)I have the Miele Diamante G2143SC, which has the control panel on the front. The one your looking at G2183SCSF has the hidden controls on the top. Difference is the G2143 has the LED display on the front where you can set a delay start, and there is also a "Turbo" function that can reduce was time by 15-25 percent. The G2183 does not have the delay start or Turbo. The next model down G2181SCSF loses the China/Chrystal mode and the water softener. Since you have a whole-home water softener, as long as it's properly set, you don't need the use of the one on the dishwasher. But since I don't have a whole-home unit, I do use the built-in water softener on the Diamante and have it set to 6 grains. My unit was also connected to the hot water, since that is where the existing dishwasher hookup was. I asked Miele directly about this beforehand, and was told that you can hook it up to either, but said that there is no issue with connecting it to the hot water. So when it was installed, that's how it was done. There was no "cold water hookup" mode mentioned anywhere in the installation sheet or manual. It does not waste water as deeageaux stated. If fills from the hot water line and starts the cycle. All the cycles run fine. Maybe this was an issue on older units? Here's a copy/paste from the manual: The dishwasher can heat its own water to the temperature required by the wash program. This allows for connection of the machine to either a hot or cold water source. For lowest energy consumption connect the dishwasher to a cold water source. For fastest possible wash times, with slightly higher energy consumption, connect the dishwasher to a hot water source. All programs use hot water in the rinse cycles. The inlet hose is approximately 5 ft. (1.5m) long. A 5 ft. (1.5m) drain extension is available from Miele. The water inlet hose comes equipped with a 3/4" female hose thread connector. This can be directly connected to a water supply with 3/4" MHT (male hose thread ends). Water pressure: Must be between 4.5 - 145 psi (0.3 - 10 bar)....See MoreBosch or Miele Dishwasher
Comments (9)I've had the Miele Diamante Plus G2143SC with the Clean Touch Stainless door for a month now. We started with a GE Profile, which lasted about 1.5 years, then had an Electorlux that we only kept for about 6 weeks. It was a tough choice between the Miele and Bosch, but we felt the Miele was a better unit. In the month we've had it, the Miele unit has been problem free...something we can't say about the GE or Electrolux it replaced. At first we weren't sure if we'd like the 3rd rack cutlery tray, but after the 1st day of using it we'd never no back to the old type of silverware baskets. I would suggest using the Miele brand rinse aid, as it really makes a difference. It costs about $11 for 550ml bottle, but it would probably last over a year, as we have the unit set to dispense 1ml in each load (the 3ml was the default setting). I was using the Cascade rinse aid that I had left over from the Electrolux, but it gave the Miele unit and the plastic cups a "chemical" smell that I never noticed before. Once I got it out of the system and added the Miele rinse aid, the chemical smell stopped. We're still using the Cascade Action Packs dishwasher detergent, which work just fine (no chemical smell with them), but we've tried a few (demo) tabs of the Miele brand dishwasher detergent. They are expensive ($30 for 60 tabs, $0.50 each) but they have a ridge down the center so you can brake them in half. We tried a few like this (split in half), and they worked just fine. I'm not sure if we'll buy the box of the Miele dishwasher tabs and just break them in half for use (which would give 120 half-tab loads at $0.25 each), or buy the Cascade Complete (48 count for $12, $0.25 each). Also, get a few hard water tests strips to see what your hard water level is. That way you can properly set up the right amount on the dishwasher. I'm not sure if the water softener makes a difference or not, but everything comes out clean. The box of Miele salt was about $10 and you pour the full amount into the water softener container in the bottom. It should last us about a year since our city water isn't that hard. Hope all this helps!...See MoreQuestions RE: Miele, Bosch & KA dishwashers
Comments (25)Diamante Plus installed yesterday and I must say I am impressed, at least initially. Dishes were spotless with all default settings. A couple of questions at this time. With the hidden controls, do you actually have to power off the dishwasher, or will it turn off after a certain period of time? The installer suggested we try it without adding an water softener salt initally. Our water hardness is 10pbm, so not all that bad, but enough to not make our glasses perfect. Also, the installer did not install the heatshield. My husband told him that eventually we will be replacing our cabinetry & formica countertops but I am wondering if that was a mistake given we don't quite know when we will be doing the renovation. We know if do want to do one in the future though. I was so impressed with how quiet it is. It trumps the builder grade GE that we just got rid of by a mile!...See MoreMiele Inspira or Diamante
Comments (7)I have the Inspira, discontinued model 2142. Q1 is plenty quiet. We have a kitchen that's open to the rest of the house and while you might be able to hear the dishwasher run, you probably wouldn't notice it unless you were listening for it. It certainly doesn't interrupt conversation or interfere with hearing the TV in the least. I worried about it quite a bit during the decision phase--and it turned out to be a non issue. :-) My former dishwasher had a delay wash setting and I never used it once--also never used anything but Normal, Economy, and Pots and Pans (very rarely), so extra types of settings was not a draw for me.
