Daily misting should not be required for any reason until after the seeds germinate. This assuming the potting mix was properly wet when the pots were filled. But cow and fiber pots are notoriously bad for wicking the water out of the soil and into the pot material. Unfortunately misting doesn't solve that problem, only direct watering of the soil does. The humidity dome is removed as soon as germination begins of course but until then if excess moisture is collecting on it then things are too wet inside. So cut back on the watering and prop one end of the dome open a couple of times a day to allow moisture to escape and fresh air to circulate. If necessary, remove it completely and leave it off for a couple of hours a day - it isn't required anyway and excess moisture and wet soil can do more damage than good. Once germination begins be sure to get that dome off and leave it off. Hope this helps. Dave

Thanks Dave - Heat mats removed after germination. Got that part. And I'll take care to use taller (7") humidity domes which are ventilated right after germination. I would remove the domes as well, however, I know from experience seedlings of this plant variety like high humidity, generally for the first year. Many growers float the seeds to germinate them, then transplant to their favorite medium. I lose too many in the transplanting. My real concern was whether grow lights are used with heat mats and humidity domes at the same time (until germination) and if there is a danger of the grow lights melting the plastic domes. I'm guesing not at this point - maybe I'm being a little too cautious. Thanks again Mike

Hi, What you are seeing is seed. There will be fluff with the seed attached. Seeds can be small. Some plants in the aster family sometimes have unpollinated seed mixed in with pollinated seed. If you can't tell especially since the seed is small, you should oversow, or if trading give a larger seed amount to compensate. Jenna No soil sounds strange at first - but imagine where these plants grow naturally. In very rocky, gravely substrates, what is usually referred to as 'poor' soil. Not rich on organic matter. Drainage is great when using mixes like that. What is used a lot are grit, perlite, pumice, scoria, lava rock, turface and similar. Few of these mixed together will give excellent substrate for growing succulents in containers, indoors or outside. While early summer is best for repotting many plants (not only succulents), many could be repotted when needed. Jades are very resilient and will be just fine if repotted now, or even later. I am in very similar zone as yours. My plants have to be indoors almost half of the year. I already suggested to decrease soil content of your mix and increase grit portion in my previous post. You can start there...(I have approx. 300 pots of succulents, and they are all in a mix without soil. And majority of them in plastic pots...) Or keep them in what you have - but be careful about watering. I keep Lithops indoors - there is too much rain for them to be outdoors IMO. I think they could be outdoors if protected from excessive rain.
