Comments (5)they're on the five year plan at Saks Fifth (a friend gets their 'trendevous' newsletter, and I peek) so they're not going anywhere... though the big thing for spring seems to be layered strands of beads- Bev, you might as well drag out those over the top pieces, and pair them up with an ultra- simple white blouse with a nice collar, that's certainly the look that they're passing around on fifth ave :)! everything from grandmom's 'opera' strands of crystal, to great grandmom's flapper beads- in most cases, all at once, so they look like a little girl dressing up as 'Mr T' ;) so anything we can do will look understated by comparision!...See MoreDoll and doll clothes
Comments (9)I've sewn doll clothes for years(over 40),for my DD then GD'S and now GGD's.And the other poster are correct, get the doll first.I have a soon to be 3 year old GGD,and she loves the soft dolls i make,(think rag dolls). She loves to drag them around with her for play and for bedtime.I make her the dolls and the clothes. She isn't to the stage yet where she just wants to change their clothes all the time, she just likes playing with them, talking to them etc. I've made her dolls, bunnies, bears etc,and different sizes in all of them. Then she just took over some of those sort of dolls that i keep around the house for when the kids come over. If she lives close by,take your cues from her!!My almost 3 year oldGGD plays with Barbies, but she doesn't try to dress and undress them yet.She just talks to/with them, and shows them her other babies.Make sure to make her some dollie blankets as well. I have doll patterns going back to when my DD was little 44 years ago,and for all sorts of dolls. Check your thrift stores also for old doll patterns, ours has lots of them from time to time. 2 years ago i made a wardrobe for my niece for her American Girl doll, she was 11 at the time. She was thrilled!! Comments (10)No, the walking foot will not do gathers. My simple little gathering foot that fits on my older Elna, is packed away in a closet. But I have several older attachments that pleat, and adjust to gather. Most of them orig. fit treadle machines, but will also fit most of today's machines--depending if short or long shank. Only the straight stitch is used. Here is a photo of one--you can see the fabric would be between the slot in front (right side)--the bodice would be underneath the attachment. The L side of the photo shows where it attaches to the shank and around the needle bar. At the top front is an adjustment for stitch length--this is how you control the fullness. I' maybe not explaining well, but you can prob buy a gathering foot that just clips onto your later model machine....See MoreHalloween Costumes.....Anyone Get Started Yet?
Comments (15)If you haven't found the tux/suit coat yet, I would definitely be looking at the thrift stores. Around here, a man's suit jacket would run about $5. Do you have a local theater company? Some of them rent stuff out at Halloween time, to pick up some extra $$$. A tux coat just might be one they'd rent out. Of course you can rent a real tux coat at any wedding store, too, but probably for more $$. Two of our local theater companies were holding yard sales to get rid of some of their excess costuming. One was last month for San Diego Christian Youth Theater - one of my cast moms went down and picked up some things for us. One such "goodie" was a man's suit coat that had been cut back into an old fashioned suit coat. Another sale is today, and a different mom is going in search of a similar coat in black, or one that she could cut down. Donna...See MoreRelated Professionals
