I'm with you rennovator... I love the look and options of the UK ranges and wish we had more choices available here in the U.S. Sorry, I don't have an answer for you regarding availability.

The problem with induction ranges is a very complicated one. It mostly boils down to US regulations VS European regulations regarding safety and design layouts.

The biggest problem is that there simply isn't enough demand in this country at the moment to motivate large US manufacturers to really spend the money bringing them in. Hopefully people keep buying the cooktops, because thats about your only hope for getting the ranges

It is my understanding there are some from this site that have ordered from out of the country and the appliances have worked fine. I know there are also a few places here in the US that specialize in importing appliances. You might look into it a bit more.

I believe I read (and I could be wrong) that the problem with that is the warranty. That would definitely be an issue for me. I also don't know if there are different electrical requirements.

This has been discussed concerning induction cooktops. It's not a big deal at all. The issue with a range is that now you're talking about something that is much bigger and heavier. The shipping costs would eat you alive.

Yes, I remember getting info from a site that sells the Diva for 1/2 the price because they are in New Zealand, however, there would be no warranty. The shipping costs are not an issue with a cooktop, but with a whole range, it would be outrageous! Now that Diva and Kenmore are offering induction ranges, I hope the others will follow suit. I am not interested in either: Kenmore due to small size and performance, or Diva due to cost. I really love the look of the European induction ranges, and I need a range due to electrical requirements. I would have to spend $2000+ to buy a wall oven cabinet and add another electrical outlet for separate cooktop & oven/s.

The savings is substantial enough to pay shipping. I read on another thread that though there was no manufacturer warranty that the selling company in New Zealand was very helpful and offered tech support and shipped parts when necessary. I am going the cooktop with separate oven route but this thread and the options available in regards to induction ranges outside the states did have me stop and consider it.

There are more suppliers of the cooktops here and in Canada now than previously. But I haven't looked into ranges.

The Kenmore weighs about 250lbs.

The Viking is around 450lbs.

Check out the first posting. Some things simply aren't offered here. Even when the European companies do offer certain models to the US it seems there is not a lot of variety as seen in the UK, ect.... If the unit works here(elec. issues?, and the #'s work out) then I say go for it!I love the variety seen in the UK. The style, colors, and options far exceed what we have in the US and since it isn't such a new item there, the prices are great in comparison.

sears now has a induction range, i think i saw one by ge profile too.

Sears is one of the ones I posted that I will not consider for various reasons, such as customer service, reliability, and quality. Also, I will make sure I get at least 5 burners on a 36" cooking surface.

Weedmeister, where did you find the weight of the Viking Induction Range? I searched the specs and couldn't find it.

Does anyone know why the Viking would weigh 200 lbs. more than the Kenmore?

The induction range at Sears is made by Electrolux. It looks great and we are considering it but our concern is that it is the first of it's kind in this pricerange and we wonder what other companies will have soon.

The induction elements are very close together so we are going to do a "pots and pans" test at the store to see if it will be as akward as it looks. My other concern is that the convection oven element is only 350 whereas other units have 2500. I have never used convection so don't know if it matters.

If you've ever seen piece of Viking equipment, you'ld know why it weighs so much: thick, heavy stainless steel throughout. Beating it with a hammer probably wouldn't bother it a bit.

I currently have 4 burner ceramic top range and it is too small, and the Kenmore induction range is the same size, so I already know it will be too small for me. In addition, the power is not there and I have had poor customer service from Sears in the past - I even sent a certified letter to the CEO and the president after a year-long struggle to get my then $2000 fridge repaired and they never even responded.

Aga/Falcon/Rangemaster and Smeg both have beautiful 36" induction ranges. Certainly they will be offered here in the U.S. before long!
