What is your location? Is it a tree frog with sticky pads or a jumping frog with powerful legs. Any chance of a pic?

Hmmm. I don't know regarding the "feet" as they are tucked underneath for the most part. I can see a bit of "boney looking" toes, and it is spotted, but changes from almost white to a fairly medium dark brown with light. I'll see if I can get a picture and get it posted. Thanks for responding. I really AM at a loss as to what to do!

I'm in the middle of Iowa.

I have taken a few pictures over the last few days while trying to figure out how to best post them. I finally did a composite and you can get to it at the link below.

As you can see, its color changes with the temperature and the light in the room, and it appears I may have something along the line of a tree frog as the pads appear to be the sticky type.

So, what should I do with it? I hate to doom it to death. I have a 2+ Ft. deep hole near the house where I am overwintering plants that is covered with leaves. Do you think it would stay alive if I placed it at the bottom and recovered it with leaves? We are to get temps in the mid 40's today, but rain is coming tomorrow or the next day. So far, we've not had the typical Iowa winter, and its been very mild, though we certainly could return to "normal" at any time.

Comments/opinions?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Cuban Treefrog = evil! Get rid of it before it spawns and takes over your whole yard.

Doggonit, I should have asked your location and size (the frog's, not yours lol) before I answered. Just brought me back to the horrors of Florida Cuban TF's and I freaked. Much better now. But I'd commute the sentence until you can check under Eastern Gray Treefrog first.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction. I found the frog in a reference book I had. Since it struggled to jump away when my husband picked it up to move it, and since it was in the high 40's, we went ahead and put it outside on top of the leaves covering the area where I "store" plants over the winter. It didn't waste much time getting beneath the leaves and even hopped a couple of times, so it was not hibernating! LOL I hope it makes it through the winter as we just don't have the number of frogs we used to have. I don't use chemicals on my gardens, so have been wondering if they are being eaten by snakes.

It's a grey, but I can't help but laugh that Day by Day would think it's a Cuban and freak out, even though they do resemble one another.

No, a Cuban wouldn't survive winter out there (yet--I don't doubt those suckers'll find a way to soon)... but, in my part of Florida they're the only treefrog you'll find. They've eaten or outcompeted every other kind. They really are worthy of freaking out over!
