Pythons in NYC?

19 years ago

Aren't Burms illegal in NYC? Or is this another case of a cute Red Tail being mistakenly called a python by the crack team of media experts?

Article from today in Forbes Magazine, reported by AP:

Wild Kingdom!

Is what they should rename NYC. I have read about so many "wild" animal stories coming out of NY like the one about the tiger found in the bronx, chickens, sheep etc.

SO many diverse groups of people that it's bound to happen.

I get a kick out of seeing chickens in the neighboor hood whenever spanish, certain spanish that is, move into our neighboor hood. I feel that it really isn't a good idea, because they run the risk of getting killed by cars or the feral cats and dogs.

I saw a segment on this on our local news, actually. The Python in question(and yes, it's a Python) was a Reticulated Python, and appeared to be a "Jampea" Retic, which is a small, or "dwarf" island subspecies, which has rather muted coloration and patterning compared to most Retics. I've had an adult male, well-cared-for and fed, not starved, who was only eight feet long at 12 years of age. He'd already sired a few litters of young'uns by the time I bought him, and he was no bigger than a stout old Black Ratsnake. Yes, all Pythons are illegal in NYC, along with ferrets, chickens and iguanas, but of course, there's always people who will keep them. Jampea Retics are expensive snakes, so someone was obviously out of a lot of money when that snake got out of its cage!

Frank, I saw your pic of Persephone as a pup sniffing the hosta flower over on the forum side and squealed! I am in love with her! That photo should be shared with other Neo lovers, it is SUPERB. Thank you for making this thread and for all of your pics! Wow! You must be VERY busy!!! In case you would be interested, I wanted to let you know about an author I read who has Neos, loves Neos, and uses a female Neo "Pansy" in a long series of books he's written. His name is Andrew Vachss. He is also a lawyer and get this, uses the proceeds from his writing to allow him to work as a lawyer for abused children absolutely free. I love his writing, and have great respect for the man. The books, known as the "Burke series", are the ones which feature Pansy. Warning, they are hard and gritty, underground NYC crime/murder stories. Burke is the protagonist, and Pansy is always at his side. Here is a link to author Andrew Vachss' website, featuring the real "Pansy". Pansy even has her own Facebook. http://www.vachss.com/dogs/av_dogs/pansy.html The Burke series, if anyone is interested, are listed in order at the following link on his site. http://www.vachss.com/av_novels/index_theburkeseries.html Here is a link that might be useful: Pansy the Neo Mastiff

This is hilarious. According to this Urban Dictionary definition, I am poor. I shop at Wal Mart (ALL the time, and occasionally go to Goodwill) and I do not have a Versace anything. I do know how to pronounce it now though. Seriously, I hope I am never defined by what I wear, at the least, although I certainly enjoy nice things! poor 20 up, 77 down Low-class, underpriveleged people. You will find many poor people if you go to places such as Wal-Mart, as poor people seek discounted prices as they do not have much money. Poor people will wear brands such as Faded Glory, Wrangler, and other commonly available brands, and most likely will have no knowledge of brands such as Burberry, Armani, Gucci, Versace, and other nicer brands. They will often drive used cars, typically cheaper domestic cars or inferior foreign brands such as Hyundai, typically more than five years old. Severely poor people will have cars that are ten years or older and they might purchase second-hand clothes from stores such as Goodwill. Poor people will have inferior jobs and probably make less than $50,000 a year. The definition of poor varies by region. The poorest of people will live in trailers. With no means to live lavishly, poor people will often lead a simple lifestyle. Poor kids are often unpopular at school as they can not fit in with popular children. Sometimes also used by some people as a noun to refer to people they do not like. Their clothes are not brand name, they must be poor. Look at the poor people shopping at Wal-Mart!

Thank you all for the suggestions! We ended up seeing the UCB comedy show and we had a hit. It was funny! We also saw Book of Mormon - a true hit. He loved it and he’s a hard sell! Skipped everything in the financial market. There’s just so much to do. Managed two college visits, the two shows above, the Vessel, real shopping and window shopping, Bryant park, all the normal Christmas stops, yummy food, and the Mo Math museum which I will recommend as great hands on math fun for all ages. We had the Moma on our list but ran out of time. Just too much to do! Thanks for all the tips!

Time for summer purse shopping?

Target does have some great stuff right now! I had never looked at their handbags before, mainly because I've never been into purses and only bought expensive ones that would last for years (I had a black Coach with the divets on the bottom which I happily carried around for a decade). But I'm in need of something to tote around town, and particularly now that farmer's markets are back up and running. I was in Target yesterday evening and spotted these two... nothing fancy, and right up my alley.

Is this the most recent info on Regulated Reptiles (snakes) in New York as of March 15, 2005?

* All venomous species as determined by the DEC
* Burmese Python (Python m. bivittatus)
* Reticulated Python (Python reticulatus)
* African Rock Python (Python sabae)
* Green Anaconda (Eunectes maurinus)
* Yellow Anaconda (Eunectes notaeus)
* Australian Amethystine Python (Morelia amethistina and Morelia kinghorni)
* Indian Python (Python molurus)

How about Blood pythons? or is it just a general "any python potentially over 7 feet"?

Boas also reach lengths of 9-12 feet and are left off the list.
