North Carolina Trip Photos

Went down to North Carolina last week to uh, ahem, visit my grandparents, and managed to get some herping done while I was down there.

It was blazing hot the whole time, but I still found a few herps out.

One day I went down to the sandhills region for more diversity, and on my way through the Uwharrie NF I found this black rat snake crossing the road in the late morning.

My target species for the trip was an eastern king, which I love, but dont get to see too often. I found this one under a railroad tie in South Carolina near the state line.

Here's a habitat picture of a SC swamp.

And here's a canal a little south of the sandhills.

Can anyone ID this toad? I found him sitting along some RR tracks in Robeson County, NC.

I was fixing to head back to Salisbury when I found this guy crossing the road. Boy, he was grouchy. Since it was dark out, I didnt bother situating him for a good picture. Beautiful snake, though.

Over the next day or so I only turned up another copperhead and a gravid midland brown, despite roadcruising for endless hours in the Uwharrie NF.

Found under a RR tie.

Also, I got back last week from a road trip through the South. If you want to see herp pictures from that trip, go to http://churchcreek.net/rt_south.htm

Thanks for looking...
