Sorry, it's been so long I forgot to say I'm in N FL. The part that's really S GA, donchaknow. 8-]

Scared, Day? Nah, I stayed in the truck. I might have considered getting out if I weren't wearing flip flops, but I kinda like my toes just the way they are. Now if I'd come across him walking... I'll sneak up fairly close to a pygmy, but I subscribe to the 10-foot pole philosophy with these guys.

Sheesh if I came across that thing they would have to change my diaper. We did have a huge black snake living here, hope he still is, this spring we watched him swallow a pretty darned big copperhead. Had a couple of other copperheads in the yard early on but guess ole Blackie took care of them too.

Nice big Eastern Diamondback! Largest rattler in the world. they are becoming quite rare in most parts these days.

I work in the Texas oilfields and have handled all types of snakes from native to exotics ( pythons, boas, anacondas ) but always find the rattles the most interesting of all.

Just remember to keep your distance. They can spring a little less than 2/3 their body length backwards. Been there done that. Scary.

Once pulled a 6'8" ( 17 lbs. )Western diamond back (Crotalus Atrox)from under the hood of a Ford F-250 pick up with a 4" lift kit on it.
Took two hours. Thank god it was all overtime.

Douglas, I sure don't envy you that job! I don't mind racers and rat snakes, and the occasional king snake, but I always stay back as far as possible from diamondbacks and cottonmouths.
