some kind of turtle?

While hiking on a Mill Creek Trail, near Newport Lake, I spotted these creatures several times, and many times attempted to get video of clear shots of them. Only problem is, these things will disappear under the water in the blink of an eye. Upon seeing this large one, I quickly took some shots. Unfortunately one most turned out kind of blurry aside from one "OK" shot. It disappeared several seconds later. Most of them disappear either as you see them or as you walk by, which mean it can detect low-frequency vibrations in the ground from you're feet. Reptiles and amphibians have been known to be able to do this. It looks like it has a turtle shell, a crocodile or alligator head, and it has a defined thigh, as in a hippo. Anyone know what this is? For now I will simply refer to it as "Crocoturtle." I think it is either aquatic or semi aquatic animal, because I never saw any on land, so it is not terrestrial. The animal does not appear aggressive, instead prefers to disappear under the water as something bigger than comes by. It is approximately 2-3 feet big by what I saw.
