I don't know if this will help, but the Barred clearly sounds like

"Who Cooks for You" (x 2-3)
and finishes with "Who Cooks for You aaallllll"

that's the only way I've been able to know for sure it was that particular species.

i might add that that last note on the barred always reminds me of wilma flintstone when she gets mad: OOOOOOOOOh!

Jen: It was undoubtedly a Barred Owl, and you'll no doubt be hearing it from now through the Spring. An eerie sound, echoing through the woods, they are very loud and vociferous
at this time of year. I've been hearing them in the Maryland-Virginia area, also. They actually make a Barred Owl call, that turkey hunters use, and it sounds exactly as was described above. It's known as a "locater" call--when a turkey gobbler hears it, he'll gobble back, to let the owl know that he's in the area, and not to try and eat the young turkey poults. That's how the turkey hunter finds out where the turkey gobbler is located--thus, a "locater" call.

fairy_toadmother: Owl, hawk, and crow calls, when used to locate wild turkeys, are also known as "shock" calls, since the turkey is "shocked" into answering back to one of the natural predators of its eggs and young birds (poults). You actually use them to locate the gobbler--THEN, you use the hen call to lure him close. If you were to just use the hen call, the turkey gobbler may sneak to your location without your ever knowing it, and without making a sound.
