Hand-picking the adult beetles and large rubs is easy. The adults are very slow and can't fly. If you take a large bowl you can just gently shake the tops of the plants where they congregate and they fall into the bowl. The juvenile beetles can fly and are more skittish, but if you go out in very early morning they are sluggish from the coolness. The main problem is the small grubs which are to see and hard to get off, and can get very numerous. When you spray bt, concentrate on the growth buds of the foliage, that where the grubs are most concentrated. Don't bother with the powder it's expensive and less effective, get the soluble stuff. I mix it with water and a little dishsoap in a hand spray-bottle. If you already see larvae it's a bit late for spraying, gotta hand-pick every couple of days until the numbers are reduced.

I think it is another plague! LOL....part of the 'It was too cold for too long and now it's hot!' issue we're having. Everything is blooming at once and all the bugs are out - in droves! I think these are the beetles that start out as white grubs. I know I have few white grubs in my yard, so they must migrate in some capacity from other neighboring yards. With such a large number of lizards and geckos killed off, I think we're in for a very buggy spring! But -- at least the COLD weather is gone! What a winter this was!

Sammy, Cucumber beetles come both in a striped version and a spotted version. I know it must be something different from the standard rose pests because I'm sure you've seen plenty of them in your many years of growing roses. If it is about the same size as a spotted cucumber beetle or just a bit bigger than a lady bug, then it likely is a striped cucumber beetle. If it is about 2-3 times as long as the cucumber beetles and lady bugs, it probably is a blister bug or one of its relatives.
