FINALLY! An Eastern Milk!

I went down to Kankakee County today with my friend Nick who has never herped before. It was 6pm when we got down there so we didn't have much time. We went to some "guaranteed" spots and turned up nothing. I was beginning to suspect that Nick was bad luck.

I stopped at an abandoned house I have found Racers and Bulls around before and it was burned down, and still smoldering apparently. Turned up nothing there too. I headed back to the acr and noticed some good territory across the street I hadn't noticed last summer because the foliage was high.

So I flipped and searched and flipped and searched. On the way back to the car I saw a piece of tin on a hillside and pulled it up.

OH MY GOD! A juvy Eastern Milk coiled up, perfect as could be! The first one I ever have seen in the wild, EVER!

I called Nick over and showed him and he even got excited about it. We checked out a few more pieces of junk on the hill and got nothin. Then I flipped a piece of tin, just as the sun was going down to unveil a very angry, very defensive 4 1/2 foot Bullsnake. I was happy that Nick was there to see that and he was very impressed.

We went off to do a comedy show that got cancelled, but my day was already made.
