I know that this has been asked many times before, but this is my first non-red-tailed-hawk sighting yet. I was so surprised to be in a public park and look up in the trees and see this guy. Honestly, at first I thought he might have been a large Northern Flicker (since I first likened it to a bird I had seen before), but then I realized it was nothing of the sort.
He kept his back turned to me while I had the camera out (unfortunately only my 170mm lens), but when he thought I wasn't looking he turned toward me and I saw his front--it was mostly white with some streaking. So do you think this is this a Cooper's or a Sharp Shinned?
