Two Day Report!

Friday 4/29

I headed down to Arkansas for a day of storm chasing. Unfortunately, it was a bust. The winds were blowing in the wrong direction and they were light or non-existant. Needless to say, the weather conditions didn't support tornadic development. All I saw this day was a few DORs.

2 DOR - Diamond-backed Water Snakes

1 DOR - Broad-banded Water Snake

1 DOR - Graham's Crayfish Snake

TMTC - Bronze Frogs

TMTC - Bull Frogs

Saturday 4/30

My dad and I stopped at Mingo Swamp today on the way home. It started out slow, but picked up a little by the day's end. The totals:

5 - Diamond-backed Water Snakes

5 - Broad-banded Water Snakes

2 - Western Cottonmouths

2 - Southern Black Racers (1 DOR)

TMTC - Red-eared Sliders

TMTC - Southern Painted Turtles

2 - Ground Skinks

1 - Five-lined Skink

TMTC - Southern Leopard Frogs

TMTC - Blanchard's Cricket Frogs

1 - Eastern Narrow-mouthed Toad (Life Lister)

My favorite find was the narrow-mouthed toad. My dad looked under a log and said, "What kind of frog is this?" I was speechless when I saw it. This was one of the frogs I wanted to see for years.

I stopped at one other spot before arriving home. I wanted to visit a tin site, but got lost. I made a wrong turn. I'm glad I made the wrong turn, because the area we arrived at looked good for Syspilia. Just before calling it quits after seeing nothing but northern fence lizards and ground skinks, I flipped a rock and found the Holy Grail of snakes coiled underneath. It was pretty, but ugly at the sametime. It was slightly opaque. The white was more tan in color. However, I don't discrimminate based on color. I like all milk snakes (and snakes in general for that matter) the same. I got a life lister and ended my milk snake drought. This was a very succesfull day. Sorry Mike!

By the way Mike, you will be interested in knowing where I found the milk.

Ryan
