That is Trachemys scripta, the Red-eared or Yellow-bellied Slider. Trachemys eggs usually hatch around 60 days after they are laid., but if it is warmer than usual they can hatch sooner.

That looks like one of those little dime-store 'pet' turtles that parents turn loose into a local stream or lake after the kids get tired of feeding them. They used to cost 10 cents when I was a kid, but I think they cost a lot more now.

Thats definitely a female Slider (Trachemys scripta). The particular subspecies (if you believe in that sort of thing) looks to be a yellowbelly slider (T. s. scripta). She was probably looking for a spot to lay her eggs or had finished and was heading back to her pond. I'd release her in a nearby pond/river/lake. While the injury looks nasty, I have little doubt she'll recover from it - I've got a turtle that had an injury almost exactly like that (nose was bitten off) and she recovered just fine with no help from me. I wouldn't entrust her to a wildlife rehab center - if its anything like the one's I've worked at its run by people who love bunnies and chipmunks and cute and fuzzy things and don't know jack about reptiles - the end result being that the turtles and other reptiles are severely neglected and not properly cared for. I would definitely have no hesitation about putting her back - trust me, she'll be just fine. ~Mike

Perhaps I should have given more info in my first note. I only had them in the 'tub' so they cound go outside for some sunshine. It is not where I keep them. When I feel they are large enough to be released back to the wild I will do so. I have a family of racoons not to mention birds and snakes who like to dine on newborn turtles and I will do my best to give these babies a chance to live. I just wanted to know what they are since I want to give them the conditions they require.
