Thanks for the link! I used to post there, then lost the info when my computer went down. I 'think' I have the answer to the ID. It seems to be a female 'Salvin's emerald' hummingbird. Although, in the in my batch of photos there may be another species that accounts for the 'blotches' on the throat. So maybe I have more than the 7 species I thought I have!

'A guide to Tropical Plants of Costa Rica' by Willow Zuchowski is very detailed. It is expensive when bought in CR but I bought from Amazon and a friend delivered it. There is also a small book by Barry Hammel (InBio) 'Native Ornamental Plant' I live in Guayabo de Bagaces, Guanacaste.

Could be...but am not familiar with Costa Rican insects.

The snake in the Fox News story later proved to have been a Burmese Python, NOT a Boa at all. It's fairly typical for the news media and law enforcement officers to report ANY large constricting snake as "Boa Constrictor", just like any short-haired dog that bites someone automatically becomes a "pit bull" when that is reported. People just automatically associate Boas with constricting, so they assume that if the snake used constriction, it has to be a Boa. That story is a very good example of how innaccurate reports involving snakes can be.
