Help! Owls attacking us in our yard!

Our neighbors had this problem last year and now they've come to live in our tree. I do a lot of gardening in my flower beds around the house and tonight when I was moving the sprinkler I heard chatter in the tree and sassumed it was a raccoon but No! Before I could have another thought I was hit very hard by an owl with it's talons which got entangled in my hair and pulled a bit out (but I think saved me from really getting cut). My husband ran over to see what all the commotion (and cussing) was about and he got nailed too!

Not 2 minutes later a woman was walking past and we tried to warn her to stay away from our side of the street but too late-she was attacked twice-I felt so bad for her and tried to help but she ran away screaming :0(

What is the deal? Possibly babies in the nest? How long do they normally stay? I'm in Michigan. So I took the golf umbrella out to move the sprinkler after that but now have a helluva headache where he thumped me. Gonna be a long summer if I have to carry an umbrella around while working on my flowers :0(

Suggestions? Love them and think they are gorgeous animals but why couldn't they nest in the back area of the yard instead of right above the sidewalk and next to the house. We have so many kids and dog walkers in the area I'm afraid a small child is really going to get hurt.

Appreciate any advice!
