He's a cutie. How long did he stay in your yard???

He was chased up a tree by my neighbor's dog, he hung out there all day and was gone in the morning. My kids thought it was really cool (it was!) =)

That is so sweet. Is it something that lives where you are??? Which state are you in??? I'm in Canada and I doubt we have any here where I live.

The good news ... they eat SQUIRRELS!!!!

I don't think they are so common in my area (New Haven), probably in the many woods in CT, but my area is not rural at all....
As for the squirrels, actually my neighbor was concerned that it was responsible for some recent attacks on his chickens =(. He seems to be long gone now, though. He certainly is cute!

I've never heard of squirrels attacking chickens, but....you never know. I grew up on a farm and for us was always the foxes and coyotes we had to worry about.

No, I was replying to lazygarden's post that the fisher cats are good because they eat squirrels, and saying that the fisher cat may have been responsible for eating the chickens. =)

I live in central Ontario and we have lots of fishers. They don't just eat squirrels but also any rodent as well as cats. Fishers took care of a feral cat community in one town where we lived. I have seen a few here recently and also found the skeleton and skull including teeth on a forest path several years ago. They are the only natural predator of porcupines - flip them over with their long claws and attack the underbelly. They may look cute but are very fierce!

That is most def a fisher & they are downright mean! They cleaned out my entire flock of hens last year, hate those things!!

They are not mean, just hungry and took advantage of an easy meal. Don't hate an animal for acting natural.

hostacats--Of course we have ferrets in Canada and mink and martins and fishers--all somewhat look alike animals. However they don't live in our cities. There is enough bush and unexplored territory in Canada to keep them there
