Fresh Water Snails for ID Please

In my pond in Zone 7 Southern Maryland. They eat algae and do not molest my pond plants. I see them in the water only - never on land. They are not prolific breeders and they survive the winter. These are about 1/2 inch long tops. They sometimes float on top the water surface to eat fine algae and on the liner sides and plant stems if algae is there. Their shells are not hard and you could crush one with your fingers. These are adult size. The population is stable with about a dozen individuals that I can see (the pond is small but deep). I saw a baby garter snake in this pond recently and I wonder if it was there to eat the snails? There are no fish in this pond, but sometimes bullfrogs or Southern Leopard frogs will pass through. Can anybody ID please? Would appreciate scientific name and common name if known. Thanks! CT
