You have a Dendrobium orchid, the new growth with the roots attached is called a keiki (baby plant). Probaby a hard-cane type of Dendrobium, see if you can find some complete culture notes on the net that relate to the climate where you live.

Carol - 2 systemic miticides are very efficient - and not as poisonous as Avid -it is Forbid and Pylon. Pylon is excellent for thrips as well - but it is very expensive and has a shelf life of 3 years. So -if you do not have them - do not waste your money. You can always buy it fresh as needed. I dragged my mites from AVSA in Raleigh. Why I think that Aniketa needs to restart the yucky plant - because no matter what she does - it will look horrible and distorted for a year- and if she restarts from a leaf - she will have new blooming plants in 6 months. Looks like aphids to me. I'd blast them with the hose, a hard stream but not hard enough to knock the leaves off. Do that every couple/few days for a week or so, soon the ones you'll miss should be noticed and eaten by a "good" bug. Once you see those (likely ladybug larvae) at work, let them do their work. Your ROS looks really close to the wall, but pics can be deceiving. Does the sun shine on it all day?

Hi Chris.... It's really surprising- my room is 15'x15' and our electric bill is only $45 more than it was 2 years ago pre-plumeria. Electric is a lot less expensive in the NW than in the rest of the US though, and fluorescents are nicely efficient.
