Yellow jackets and railroad ties, they come back every year!

Hello all,

I have a major problem with yellow jackets making homes in some old railroad ties around my property. The ties are there to stop soil erosion so i really do not want to remove them, i would rather not replace all of them as it would be a pretty big job. Is there something i can impregnate them with to stop yellow jackets from finding them to be a suitable home?

my friend had an interesting idea to impregnate them with spore plugs and maybe toxic mycelium would deter the wasps.. or at least get them too high to work :-P
