How tall did the determinate toms get ? I noticed that too , my romas were still flowering as they were ripening. Would have gone till frost had septoria not showed up.

What varieties do you have in there?

Yes there were tomatoes growing inside when it snowed.

What varieties?

Red: Big Beef, BHN 640, Florida 91, Estiva, Celebrity, Early Girl, 1 Rutgers

Heirlooms: Cherokee Purple, Pineapple

Yellows/Orange: Mountain Gold, Lemon Boy, Orange Blossom

The indeterminate grew to the plastic, 9 feet, I tried to support them, they flopped over my attempt, and grew all the way back down to the ground. Now more suckers have reached the plastic again.

jrslick, what type of trellising / support system did you use in your hoop. I was not happy with the system the system we used this year.

I used a florida weave. There are t posts at each end and 1 t post in the middle. Then there are wooden posts between every 2 plants.

It has been fun to hear of your large scale gardening and the hoop house saga this season. I was thinking at first that you had harvested 3000 individual tomatoes and counted each one! I imagine 3000 pounds is more than 3000 tomatoes but would be a much more reasonable way to keep track of the harvest, especially when "by the pound" is probably how you are selling most of them. It is way over a ton more than I expect to ever grow in a year.

What are your pound totals for some of the other produce you grew and sold? Amaze us some more :)

I wouldn't say it is "large" scale. It is larger than most, but I know of larger. However, they do alot of wholesaling. As far as other totals, I was keeping track of a lot of stuff, then school started and I just didn't have enough time. I have picked close to 400 pounds of cherry tomatoes. To me that is impressive. I will probably go over the 400 pound mark by the end of the year.

I dug, by hand, over 1000 pounds of potatoes. Last year it was 1,300. I dug more as "new potatoes" this year. 3 years ago, I keep a close count on Squash/zucchini. I picked over 1,500 pounds. I stopped counting. Talk about hiding zucchini in any open car or home!

It has been a great fall this year. I had a late start on green beans. I have been harvesting and selling every week since the last week of July. My third planting will be ready in the next week or two.

I really only grow as much as I can take care of and harvest. I don't like waste. I could grow a whole lot more, but I wouldn't be able to care for it and harvest it.

I find it fascinating that I can grow so much, but then you go to a huge store or process some of you own tomatoes and then go to the store and see all the canned items. If you really stop and think about how much food we produce in this world, it is mind boggling. My garden is not even a drop in a bucket.

I am proud of what I do. Sometimes I wish I could only market garden. It feels so "Right". However, I like the steady income from teaching. This time of the year is very hard. I will put in 18 plus hour days 2-3 days a week. I look forward to Sundays, my day of rest. It is nice to be able to post questions and comments and other people understand what you are talking about.
