A junco maybe?

It looks like a Slated Colored Junco to me. We called them snowbirds where I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. We had them only in the late fall and winter seasons.

The first few times I saw one, there was snow on the ground and my first thought was that it had snow on its tummy!

Thanks for replying so quickly. I just now looked up Junco photos online and it does resemble the Junco quite a lot. The main difference I see is that "my" bird has a different beak compared to the pics of Juncos. On the last picture I posted, you can see the long very thin (needle like) beak..almost like a hummingbird's beak. The Junco beaks I saw online were not as skinny like my bird.

Any other possibilities?

can't tell from your pictures but a dark eyed junco would have a yellow beak and there would be several white tail feathers

here anyway in southwest colorado the juncos come in the fall after it starts frosting at night and the first snows come. in early spring as the snow melts and the ground clears they start working their way up into the mountains where they nest and stay till the weather drives them down to the valleys and river basins. hiking in the mountains in summer i see them in the mountain meadows and even above timberline in the alpine tundra.

Laurie, I hate to disagree, but take a look at a Black Pheobe.

Hmmmmm...interesting. My initial gut said Junco because of the black and white, but now that I see alan's post, I am in agreement with him. Black Phoebe looks much more right. The bill is wrong for Junco.

I think Black Pheobe is the one!! I checked these photos online (see link below) and as soon as I saw these pictures I said "That's it!". The markings are similar to a Junco, but that beak or bill is very distinctly different. Wish I had a better camera!

I am so excited to learn more about this adorable bird. I've watched it swoop down and catch tiny moths or other insects...sometimes in mid air.

At first glance I thought Junco but the 3rd pic screams Phoebe
