Help please! Blight? Part 2 - Photos from today

Hello Again,

Since I first posted for help on 7-31, problems with the kidz are worse. I've pored the internet for hours and I'm still not completely sure about what I have going on here, am guessing I have a few issues but need your help.

This week I:

-sprayed with Daconil (reluctant but desperate!)

-put up the reed fence to provide some better shade (had container tops -doing a poor job of shading for the last 2 weeks)

-moved the ETs out more and spaced to provide some more air space

-sprayed with BT and Neem (4 days apart)

-removed the worst leaves - trying to keep as much leaf cover to help avoid scalding

Can anyone assist with identifying any of the problems in the photos below?

I'm grateful for any help or remedy you can offer!!

You could have a Septoria infection. On another Site, poster have reported better success with this product from Bonide which includes Mancozeb, as compared with Daconil

Looks similar to what I have - which I think is septoria. I also have a plant where the leaves just sort of dry up. And I'm one that started using the mancozeb - it does seem to be helping. I got mine at a local garden center.

I hope this is not too bold, but you asked. I don't think the white is the problem. The right side of the house is OK. Shutter color does little for the house - go with a brighter color, or earth tone. Maybe also do the trim in the same color to tune down the while (ie eves, vent and roof line). The left side of the house could use some work. Two windows and a door - all different designs. The one window with shutters is small and would look better larger, but is not bad. The one to the left of the door does not fit with the others. The entry way is not impressive. I'd spend most of your money on the entry way. Make it much bigger. It is at the center of the house and it should be the focal point. This can be done in a number of ways. Extend the porch. Add a new enclosed front entry. Make a wide, impressive walkway to the driveway. If you add a 'wow' entry way, no one will notice the rest of the house which is not so bad. A nice wood door in the same color as teh shutters. Then work on the landscape. Remove the tree in front of the door way. The new path will extend out from the front, in a wide sweep to the drive, and allow you to add a nice bed on both sides of it. The one in front can curve towards the front of the property on the driveway side and include the smaller tree out front. Another large bed around the big tree to balance it, and to balance that side of the house which is larger. The white house would be a good backdrop to evergreens. You have a great front yard for gardening - if that is your thing. A lot of people on this sight would kill for a lawn like that.

pixie lou, I love the bright white of the shasta daisies. The nasturtium is a nice color. Do you start from seeds each spring? PM2, my patch may not be big enough. I just started last year with 3 plants. As for bees, I don't have many. I don't know why. Could be that the last owner used 'many chemicals' as quoted from the next door neighbors. Could be because there were very few flowers when we first moved in....like 2 butterfly bushes and 4 poppies. BTW, the oakleaf hydrangea is beautiful. Claire, how does that Itea virginica smell? nhbabs, I like that Clematis 'Fascination'. terrene, thanks. My crazy dog has been scaring off all forms of wild life except for the occasional deer and cats. I planted some sunflowers and have been worried that the deer will find them. Putting a fence is not ideal since the sunflowers are in the front yard and they will be at least 5 feet tall. Pixie Lou, you have a lot of nice lilies. I only have a few because of the RLLB. I just couldnÃ¢ÂÂt keep them clean if I had too many. As it is, the Ã¢ÂÂOraniaÃ¢ÂÂ this year looked fine until after it bloomed I noticed the foliage has a fair amount of holes in it. You canÃ¢ÂÂt cut the stalks back to the ground after blooming, right? I would like to have enough to smell them in the house, but nope. The Ã¢ÂÂOraniaÃ¢ÂÂ does make the whole front walkway a very pleasant trip when they are blooming. And thanks, glad the comparison of peppers was interesting. I think growing hot peppers does make a difference, they seem to be a more vigorous and shapely shrub that produces more and smaller peppers. The large sweet peppers seem to be more difficult to get more than a few per plant. Thyme2dig, what a pretty daylily border! IÃ¢ÂÂm not always pulled to purchase a daylily and some of that is the way I see them being used. The way you have planted them all together that way without competition from other plants and with that great shrub border behind it, I really like it a lot. What is that dark shrub in photo #3? And is that Nasturtium at the base of your purple tripod? Jane, I donÃ¢ÂÂt blame you about the FarmerÃ¢ÂÂs Market next year. I took a couple of yearÃ¢ÂÂs off from the vegetable garden and I missed it and here I am still doing it. :-) But is this year an exception? I think some years are not the greatest and this year just wasnÃ¢ÂÂt. IÃ¢ÂÂm going to try to salvage some of the season and go for some fall crops of Broccoli and Lettuces and Kale and other greens. This weekend IÃ¢ÂÂm probably going to start. I have three squash plants without a squash between them. *sigh* Spedigrees, thatÃ¢ÂÂs a good looking lily and the foliage is a lot cleaner than mine. :-)

Would anyone be willing to share a PDF of the plans for the Calabash Cottage? I've designed a house based off of the Calabash Cottage but it really has little to no similarities on the interior. I have 10 tomato plants which are showing symptoms similar to those pictures above. Not too awful and to varying degrees. I have been spraying with Daconil faithfully at least once/week all season long. My question: At this point in the growing season, (I'm in zone 5b in SE New York) as long as the plants don't deteriorate too quickly (and as I said, nothing is too awful - I just pick off the damaged leaves and move on. 90% of the plant is still fine and growing), does it really matter? Do I really have to aggressively fight this disease?

I have similiar looking issues on a few of my plants.. noticed it first about a month ago. Like the others, I definately think Septoria is a possibility.. been a muggy summer here. I've been spraying after each rain with a Bordeaux mix (copper) and while the issues still remain, they advance very slowly.. only doing some minimal pruning every few days. Production from the plants seems minimally affected.

Keep cutting the bad stuff off and get SOME kind of fungicide on it.

I agree with the other posters here that what you have may be septoria. If you had late blight there would be dark lesions on the stems and your plants would be dead within days. The small black spots with the yellow halo around them is definatly one of the bacterial problems. Rotate your fungicides with copper and mancozeb products.

Thank you all for your help. Raybo I'll go out and get your prescription today. Of course, they're all worse this week, another plant is 1/2 yellow now, not sure what the heck is going on :::sigh::: Each one seems to have different symptoms.

I posted my stats on Part 1, but think it got pulled down... I'm in San Diego Zone 10... unusually cool, yet humid summer. Guess I chose the wrong year to get excited about growing tomatoes! Of course it's hot this weekend so am guessing I'll have another set of issues next week!
