I posted some pics on the Raptors sub-forum.

Pretty slow in there, judging by the post dates.

I just wanted to share on here.

My local raptor watch group has been counting migrating raptors since August.
Anyone can show up at the watch and help spot the birds. Binoculars sure do help, though not necessary. Having people there to help you identify the birds so you know what you're looking at is also nice.
The count is then submitted to HMANA. http://hawkcount.org/
You may be able to find a count near you at this site.
Everyone here says that in New Jersey the place to be for migration is Cape May.
We are known here as a good place for spotting golden eagles- but you have to dress real warm if you want to see them. They migrate Nov. -Dec.

Maire, the story line is just as appropos for Dallas. In recent years Houston has become the major hub for oil companies, but they exist throughout the south. I've tried making my own oil with alcohol and the essential oils, but never could get the scent just right and they seemed to clog up my wicks.. so I stick with mixing the La Tee Da oils with the 91% alcohol. Mustangs - do you have a favorite floral scent in the La Dee Da oils that isn't too flowery? I might want to try something different next time I order.

If a yurt costs as much as a solid wall bunkie I'd choose the bunkie. Several years ago my DH built me a garden house that is 12'x16' with a sleeping loft. We did it that year the Cdn. gov't gave rebates for home improvements to stimulate the economy so could claim expenses and got some money back. Even so it cost several thousand dollars. We did find some of the building materials and all the windows at yard sales which saved. DH built it all himself except for shingling the steep roof. I only use it to store garden decor, patio chairs and table, etc. but when the Grands are older they'll likely sleep and play in it and I'll hang curtains and decorate it. I'd like to have an outdoor privy nearby but that's another project. I live on a large acreage and at the time we had farm status so could build any size outbuildings and didn't need a building permit. Without farm status the size of outbuildings are limited and I believe one needs a building permit in this province.

I have the Pandigital novel reader tablet and I also have a lookbook ereader. I absolutely love the pandigital and am so glad to have it, I can do so much on it since it is not just a reader but also a tablet, surf, email, listen to music, videos and pictures lots of stuff and since it uses epub format it also works with overdrive and the library and so many of the free book sites. I highly recommend it. And since it is an android tablet you can add many of the android apps including other reader apps like the kindle app so on this one tablet you can read various formats. I love the feature that is night read I can read with absolutely no lights on and not bother anyone. the lookbook is just an ereader it is exactly like the litarati by sharper image made by the same company and I got it at CVS on sale for $49 which was a real steal. I would not get any reader that is discontinued they are moving very fast in doing upgrades and updates so getting the latest version is absolutely the best idea. Pandigital Novel eReaders we have several threads over on the computer help area about the Pandigital, many of us here on GW have them.

Do you consider owls raptors? I have tried to upload an photo I took of a barn owl.

Good question. Since raptor is just a term assigned in an attempt to label, I suppose one could make a case either way. They are definitely a separate group than the diurnal raptors (hawks, falcons, eagles, osprey, vultures, kites) but the term "nocturnal raptor" seems to fit owls just fine. Cornell Lab of Ornithology's All About Birds website refers to owls as raptors, so I will too. Loosely, it seems "raptor" is assigned to birds of prey with strong, sharp talons. So, owls are included, but birds of prey such as the Northern Shrike and Loggerhead Shrike are not.
