I'd love to discover one of these! In fact, I've never seen a hummer's nest except in photos, though I keep looking. Congrats!

I have found a couple smallish nests over the years, thinking they might be hummer nests, but now that I've seen a real one, they were much too big......I just can't believe how small this is!

This isn't the greatest pic, but it gives you an idea of the smallness. I put a quarter in the nest. It just fit.
Its amazing! I would love to see baby hummers in it.

On another thread, someone posted that they have had success finding hummingbird nests by "following the female". Although the hummers visit my gardens frequently during the summer, I would not have the slightest clue how to follow a hummingbird and would consider it a very lucky day to stumble across such a tiny hidden nest.

I noticed the same kind of green stuff on my nest........is that stuff called lichens?
terrene........I've always had trouble following the hummers too. After they drink out of my feeder.....they just zoom off. Hopefully someday I'll be able to see the little ones in a nest.

I don't know about the tree. The foliage the nest is in may not be on the tree trunk in the background. The needles around the nest look like some sort of Spruce to me and the trunk looks like it might be eucalyptus. She lives in Redding, CA. and both of those type trees are on or behind their home. I'll check with her and if she knows I'll post again.

Totally cool nest, I will be looking for nests on my property as we also have hummers. I had no idea the nest was so tiny. How wonderful the creatures all are. It is just amazing. Thanks for sharing.
