How to Build a Lean-To

Hi everyone. I normally can be found lurking somewhere on the Gardening Forum but I have a question that seemed better suited for the camping forum. My husband and I just bought some land in VT. We will not build on the land for several years but we will spend time there clearing brush, etc. We want to build a permanent lean-to for camping. Does anyone know of any plans to build a lean to? I have done some initial searching on the internet without much success. If anyone has any suggestions I would really aprreciate it. Thank you.

I'm surprised you have not found anything. It seems like there would be a bunch of stuff around on lean-tos. I think that's a great idea, by the way, as a temporary thing or even as a long term strategy for enjoying your land.

We saw a full history of Lean-Tos at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake, NY when I took my family there in August. I remember seeing a government (or maybe NY State) issued plan for how to build a lean-to. Give them a call. They may be able to point you in the right direction.

I found a sight that sells blueprints for different lean to. Google outdoor structures plan SL1162 details.click blueprints and hone plans. I hope that works.I also have seen NYS lean to plan someplace but can't recall. They are simple enough to build. Logs, chain saw,land scape spikes.rough sawed wood for deck and roof, shingles (cedar or standard glass ones.Good luck

The gray electrical conduit pipes that we saw at home depot are pvc. In reading postings from various forums, I gathered that the gray pvc is sun resistant and the white is not and so is more likely to grow brittle. One responder indicated that pvc pipe degrades the greenhouse film. Is this problem caused by high temperatures like in the summer? Since we are in NC, and are not planning on growing anything in the greenhouse during the summer, we were planning on taking the greenhouse film down. Another question we had. We were planning on using wide greenhouse film as our covering, but were wondering if forum members had a recommendation as to the best place to purchase it. There are so many web sites that offer it. Thanks again for the comments.

Looks like it needs water from leaves (confirm this before watering by inserting your finger into the soil). I would stake the remove the stake next spring, most leans eventually correct themselves but this will most likely not be the case here.

Kara, I have no idea! I wish I knew, lol. jaittasa, I am actually upgrading to a T5 HO light. I just ordered the Agrobrite 2 ft 4 lamp which is 8000 lumens. I think the current setup is pretty good but it could be better which is why I'm upgrading. That, and it will be nice to only have 1 cord to deal with, lol. Some before and afters with my current setup: Could it be better? Sure, that's why I'm upgrading but so far, I think my plants are pretty happy. They certainly weren't happy before sitting in a window hoping to soak up enough light. :(
