Great! Where were you? The brown-headed nuthatch is my second favorite bird, after the titmouse, but I haven't seen any since I moved back to Florida.

WOW -- roots in five days!

They say they root faster in colored glass, though I don't root much in water anymore. I have a big "rooting pot" - about a 10" pot - that I stick multiple cuttings in at any given time. It's my opinion (though I can't prove it...) that rooting plants send out hormones or some other kind of "signals". So I think when you root a bunch of cuttings together, they will root faster than one cutting alone in one pot. I rooted a bunch of pubicalyx this summer in my "rooting pot" (along with other things...) and it took off, got a big root system fast, and has grown like crazy. Sold a vigorously growing 4" pot of it Sunday at my C&S auction for $20! PB - when I do root in water, as soon as I see roots I get them into soil. The longer it sits in water, the harder it is for the roots to adjust to soil. It seems to stunt the process of new growth for awhile. It's why I stopped rooting in water. Denise in Omaha

Thank you all! Mtn, yes! Your suggestion was perfect for a quick getaway! I really really need to start researching possible places to get reasonably priced art mementoes while traveling. I do look for things while on trips but really don’t have a direction and often end up trying to find something in touristy areas, without luck. I should have at least bought a small framed butterfly here http://www.butterflypeople.com/ You cannot tell by the pictures how lovely these are in their translucent magic unless you see them in person. Although I still haven’t given meditation a real try I have to say that just walking into a full gallery of this art form with the soothing music in the background puts one into a zone. Here is a link that might be useful: Butterfly People This post was edited by jterrilynn on Sat, Sep 7, 13 at 14:24

Ann T, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person who thinks sourdough is too "sour". I tried and tried to get a viable living starter and after I did, I didn't even like it very much! I haven't baked bread in a long time, Elery's been on a diet and since he loves homemade bread he has asked me not to make it . Since neither of us care for store-bought bread, it sure cuts down the bread consumption! Sandra, Grandma only baked basic bread during the winter, when the chickens weren't laying eggs and we didn't have an overflow of butter. All other times she made the rich farmhouse white bread with butter, eggs and milk, some sugar. I really have to make some bread soon. It won't look like Ann T's but I don't care, LOL, I'll eat the end piece off the loaf before I ever think to take a picture. Annie

I think I'm going to pursue. I just found out my realtor misrepresented what the offer is. Long story short, it's an investment company who presents offer to purchase contracts to sellers who are having trouble selling, basically with the assumption that they can market it better, fetch a better price than the current listing price and therefore make a profit. They will have 60 days essentially to generate interest and attract a strong buyer, at which point they'll exercise their option to buy. The contract is for full price (of my current listing price), all cash offer, no contingencies (again, if they exercise the option). I don't see any downside. We're not generating any interest, my real estate agent is terrible (in fact it took him two days to send this, and even though we're nearing the expiration date he hasn't responded to texts or emails), and I have nothing to lose at this point...

Did you photograph the (highly endangered) Red-cockaded Woodpeckers in the Osceola National Forest? At least they are hanging on in Florida public land since the forest service has been managing old Longleaf pine stands, their preferred habitat.

The Pectoral Sandpipers were still at the Minor Clark Fish Hatchery 3 days ago, so they've been taking their time this year. Probably means a mild, late-starting winter
