We have a cedar waxwing nesting in a walnut tree near my flowers, I noticed him or her when I was looking for a moth in my pholx, a chipmunk was on the tree and the waxwing was really giving him a piece of his mind. only one other time I remember seeing them here in Indiana.

That's neat, gran! I'm in central Indiana and I do see them occasionally. Seems like I see more of them some years, than others. Just saw a couple fly into my crab apple tree yesterday.
They have a very distinctive high-pitched whistle call. They are very handsome birds!

I have a pair nesting in my Thunderchild crab. I offered them wool for their nest and they built their nest in my tree in the yard. I had 3 other pairs helping themselves to the wool as well but each pair went in a different direction. I saw the female eating the shells today so the little ones are hatching. This is the first year I've had them nest. Last year they built a nest, laid eggs but abandoned the nest when a robin kept coming to the nest. They also dismantled the nest last year and took all the wool with them to their new site. I am so happy they built in my tree. I live in Saskatchewan. Can't wait until I see the babies.

We did a similar move in December. We did what my grandmother would have called a "spit and shine", a half serious cleaning, and I am satisfied we did the right thing. Our experience would have me suggest putting off the floor refinishing until last. I've no thoughts on power cleaning.

I have both, a basic model Cuisinart made in Japan and a Robot Coupe made in France. Both vintage. Both machines are heavy duty and should be able to handle any duties required in the home. Interestingly the parts from the Cuisinart fit and work on the Robot Coupe but not vise-versa. I suggest that all parts and blades be washed by hand. Do not place these parts in the dishwasher. The heat of the dishwasher drying mode will weaken the plastic of the parts. Also be careful when twisting the lid on and off the bowl to prevent the locking/power engagement pin from breaking. Most importantly DON'T DROP IT! If you have a machine with a malfunctioning locking/power engagement pin you could manually depress the button using a pen or knitting needle. Be careful though as you no longer have the safety measures of the power engagement pin to protect you. The question about 3D printing your own bowl....This is not a viable solution for many reasons including: the plastic used has to be food safe. The bowl needs to be strong enough to handle the torque and stress of day to day use. And the plastic needs to be able to handle heat especially if you use the machine to puree hot items. Finding parts for these machines is difficult. Take good care of them and you should be enjoying your smoothies etc. For many many years. Happy cooking!

It's not that I ever say/write something on GW I regret sharing here...it's that I have a relative out there somewhere that I don't want to EVER contact me again. Some of you understand why. I know they participate on Facebook & I stay away from Facebook to avoid any potential contact. I consider them dangerous to my safety & they have physically harmed me in the past. Now sure, I could hide from the Internet entirely. But, I don't figure they would ever have an interest that would draw them to GW. I don't know how Facebook works since I don't participate. I don't want to go to bed every night worrying that tomorrow might bring that person back into my life. It's the not knowing part I don't think I can live with & still feel safe. /tricia

Thank you everyone for your ideas! I think I will do a combination of things... some large planters, and blending the sides into the path on the front and the floating deck on one corner/side. I am also going to remove the stone surround at the base of the tree, and use it elsewhere. Since I have no kids under 17, the little kid part isn't needed. I will also stain it (thank you for the photo and idea @beverlyfladeziner) the color of the floating deck. I think that difference is huge! I had not realized that it would be so different! Also thank you @decoenthusiaste for reminding me about the puppy factor. I think I will be doing some gravel underneath (which they leave alone) to prevent any future digging. I appreciate the input, hope everyone has a great summer!

We have Cedar Waxwings out here on the northern California coast and for years I only saw them in the fall. This year, however, my friend Samantha and I saw them up at MacKerricher State Park off Highway One (north of Fort Bragg in Mendocino County).... and we both know they were nesting..... I saw a few flying around my little patch of forest the other day. Hopefully I will be able to attract them to the yard as a safe nesting area in a few years. There is a lot of work to do.....
