Should we be hearing wild turkeys yelping in July, as hot and dry as it is? Every morning just after dawn I hear what sounds like turkeys. At first I thought it was a neighbor's dog, but it seems to be up in the trees, and I can't pinpoint where it's coming from, if I walk toward where I think I hear the sound, then it seems to be coming from behind me, or to my left, etc. Can't see any turkeys and didn't know there were any here, but what else could it be? It sounds just like morning yelps or a hen yelping. I thought they did most of their talking in April-May.
We are surrounded by woods, with a lot of open space along the freeway a couple blocks away.
