Great shot! My husband calls our bird feeders the McDonalds drive through for the hawk which occasionaly swoops down for an order of bird nuggets.

I was standing at the kitchen sink maybe 3 feet from the bird. I used the zoom on macro. Never used macro on zoom, but figured if it zooms you in close, you need it.. no blurriness this time. I need to keep my window clean though! Yesterday, we had the house finches, White Crowned Sparrows and the Goldfinches all at the feeder. Couldn't get a good shot because of shadows.

Ivamae, You really need a bird ID book! May I suggest the National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America. It is easy to use and friendly to the newcomer to bird watching. The rosy headed finch is either a purple finch or a house finch--really hard to tell apart. You are kind to worry about the young bird. If it flew about 6 feet, it was probably on one of its first flights from the nest. Young birds often sit and rest up between practice flights. If you find another that is capable of flight and is not where the dog might snack on it, just leave it alone. It will eventually get its nerve up and try that flying thing again! Enjoy your bird-watching, and be warned, it is addictive. Next you'll want a pair of binoculars, then a sunflower seed feeder (attracts a lot of various birds) and then a watering station, and on and on. Go for it!

Now that's an interesting approach, thanks Stush. I add a couple teaspoons (according to the directions on the bag) of pelleted/granular sulphur to the gritty mix when I repot them. I just fed and watered all of them by hand, with a cup (from a 5 gallon bucket, as it's about to climb to 100 deg. here and pups are a poppin' all over, I want to feed those babies. SoCal is known for alkaline soil, and alkaline water so I do fill the buckets and leave them overnight then add citric acid & Foliage Pro before watering. Let me tell you, it's a lot of work pulling each plant, watering it several times until I'm sure it's thoroughly soaked. But, I can examine each plant, see which ones are in need of more spacious digs, etc. I also take a hose to them but to rinse off the foliage as it's dusty here. It's good to know they don't mind being watered with a hose (they won't die) I'm sure I will. Speaking of Juan Chahinian, he used to live about 10 min. away from me I'm assuming before he moved to Florida. I'm going to drive by his old house and see if there are any Sans in the landscaping by chance. Also around the block from me is the former home of a man who had an antique rose nursery- beautiful Tudor home with roses everywhere, just gorgeous. I haven't been by there in awhile, I wonder if the new owner cared for the upkeep on all those roses and the water bill.
