'dream' destination

Ok, where would you go for your "dream" camping or tenting destination? Why?

I would love to camp at BASE CAMP at Mt. Everest. Just to be in the same camp where all those brave souls contemplated their final ascent. To see the sherpas, get a picture of a yak, visit the temples in the area, and stare out at this amazing, mountain would be my dream

destination. Maybe someday.....

Alaska. It just seems so wild, beautiful and untainted by human development.

I'd have to second the Alaska idea, for me that is the ultimate outdoor experience in many ways.

I really enjoyed all of these photos, jujujojo, thank you. IÃ¢ÂÂm with christinmk Ã¢ÂÂ¦ Tibet is a dream destination. It was neat to be able to "picture" (in some cases) the hybridized varieties of these flowers that we can find in catalogues and garden centers. Is the second photo of your last posing, above, of plants growing on roof tiles? ThatÃ¢ÂÂs a very curious photo. Hopefully the spot where the orchids were photographed is protected and/or a secret... were you blindfolded on the way in? I can just imagine some tourist attempting to rip one out and trying to smuggle it home. Tub picked, now on to faucets! Yikes, sticker shock...all the money I saved on the tub, (can't believe I'm spending ~2.5K and thinking I'm saving money!), I'm going to have to spend to buy roman tub filler and sink faucet? What flow rate should I be looking for? Tub capacity is 50 US gal, so far faucets have been either 9gpm or 18gpm? It would seem 18gpm is more desirable, DH seems to think I can't get a waterfall type if I want water coming out full force, guess the plumbing supply places might know this answer...any of you experts out here care to weigh in? This is brand new territory for me! Is there any reason NOT to get a single hole roman tub filler? Then I would just have one thing to reach for and of course a hand shower, though not clear yet on how I get the water turned on to the hand shower? Lotteryticket...you are NOT helping! LOL If you only knew how badly I would like a fireplace! We gutted our LR, oh 7 years ago, and have a gaping hole where the old FP used to be...am also beginning to plan finishing off that space! The music idea also appeals to me though I wonder if I could hear it over the air jets, they are supposedly noisy...I have also wondered how stereos in hot tubs work...? ineffable... a mirror would be nice and could reflect more light into the room too, and I'm sure the neighbours would love to see more of me...JK...LOL 7 years ago Last Christmas temp mantle until this whole wall is is completed with built-ins, this year, BR vanity is sitting there...sigh...

So glad you enjoyed your visit to our paradise! I agree with jboling on her overall summary of market conditions. We certainly have an abundance of lakes and rivers in this region, so there is simply a ton waterfront from which to choose. But as you saw, each area has its own identity and flavor. Did you try Siren Hall in Elk Rapids? One of my favorites. Knowing you liked that city helps me get an idea of what feel you're after. We know architects and builders in the Grand Traverse area if it comes to that. Feel free to email me. Good luck with your rental search.

So more good news regarding this: I went to the bank today to pose for the picture and collect the "voucher." I asked her about taxes. Turns out,the way that they have it set up is so,that i won't have to claim it at all. Instead of a "voucher", I will be planning the vacation directly through the travel agent,who will bill the credit union directly. I called my ex SIL,who is a tax/estate attorney,who confirmed that this is a 100% free no strings blessing. Whoohoo! Now if I can get SO to decide where to go before the offer expires next year, we will be doing good. Since we've never taken a vacation,I have no doubt we will pick some where that costs more than 2500,and end up paying the difference, but hey,it's still 2500 off right? Now what am I gonna do with Muffin while we're gone???????

Alaska by far is the best in my opinion. I camped there growing up as a kid. I live in California now and dream of going back.

My "dream" destination, well I'd have to say a year
on the road, touring the US and seeing as much of
it as possible. Up close and personal. I love LA,
but when I log on and see some of the pictures ya'll
post, and pictures from other websites I realize
how much of this great country I haven't seen. I'd
love to go from State Park to State Park, and tour
the many natural wonders each state has to offer.
Heck for that matter I'd love to see more of my
own state. We visited an area of LA this past
August that was very hilly and had this wonderful
overlook where you could see all the way to TX.
We were amazed. I'd like to go back to that area
of the state and explore more. Well ya'll have
a wonderful day.

Dawson City, Yukon Territory. Well, not in the city, but outside on the Yukon river.
It's Jack London territory, his cabin is there in Dawson City.
I should make that a 50th birthday destination.

Good topic!!! I would love to go to Alaska also, and then on the way home, stop in Canada and enjoy some R & R. Hopefully someday I will be lucky enough to visit at least one of them.

Wow! All this Alaska talk makes me want to head up there!
I would love to take an Alaskan Cruise. I have never met anyone who came back from one with a negative report.
Wife won't go anyplace that has potential of dropping below 70 degrees. Would have to take the cruise alone.
I have to keep working on her...someday, maybe get to go.

Maybe we should plan a Nature.net camping forum rally in Alaska!

My daughter won't leave me alone! She keeps asking me this very question and doesn't understand why my answer is Alaska and not Hawaii! She keeps saying, "but Mom, it's cold... it's.... it's...."! I don't know. Have I failed as a mother?
