So, how was it? Did anyone go?

I'm in an odd (very possibly, unenviable) position -- this place still has some daylilies; new place, I planted a bunch in beds last fall but have MANY pots in the garage + barn. I've been almost scared to check the ones in beds because (ugly confession) I planted many of them LATE in the fall there. Took as much soil as I could, but it was still risky. (Some might say "incredibly stupid.") Almost everything in the beds looks good so far! ('Tho many also had been pushed way up out of the ground recently, so that the crowns were completely exposed. Glad I caught that quickly.) I may have lost RACHEL LAMBERTSON. And that one got planted early. Ain't that the way of it. Grrr.... But what's doing well so far = All the ones from Dottie Warrell's sale. I didn't want to lose any, even though some were very inexpensive, because she no longer sells. CLORA, COLD COLD HEART, JOSEPH'S COAT, KNOWER SPIDER, SKY BOY, ST. ELMO'S FIRE, SUBTLE REMARK, and ZACK OF ALL TRADES - all look good. Hugest sigh of relief is for a few particularly special ones. STEVE MOLDOVAN looks like he must have been going gangbusters under ground all winter. All I know is, if what's popped up is any indication, this is going to be one vigorous and big plant. PIECE OF SKY made it! No more need be said! Then there are ones that were gifts -- and gifts are always meaningful to me, regardless of the value the outside world places on the plants. BEAR CLAWS, from a friend - I really want this one to do well, despite what I said about daylilies & images elsewhere, and I feared for it. It was another that got planted early, but with a new place, you never know. My friend also sent a piece of another one, so I'm delighted to see it showing green. A friend sent me a clump of Pat Cochenour's LEND ME YOUR COMB -- that's looking good, too. The ones in pots -- so far, all look good, including the southern ones (in many cases, very ratty foliage). My BLUE HIPPO is OK! I was worried about that one. At this place, sevs that look good include TARPON BACK and TRIALS OF LIFE. Stamile's BURGUNDY TWISTER, an ev, is fine. (Planted next to south side of house, in a raised bed and covered with small pebbles of all things.) So is COMANCHE DRUMS, a Munson ev. Also up = Lonnie Ward's TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT, a dormant. "It never ceases to amaze me that it's usually the expensive ones that fail." I know what you mean. Here, I had Tet. LAVENDER BLUE BABY in my best bed. It croaked by the end of its first year. :( However, my theory is hardiness is inversely proportional to how much you like them....The beautiful MEXICALI BLUES, in the same bed - a goner as well. Yet growing right next to it was DUDLY DOUGHERTY, which I liked, but not as much -- and that one's fine. Naturally. And let's not mention BASS GIBSON, the incredible shrinking daylily. Gag. Talk about a nauseating sight. BG is currently being babied in my house. Maybe I should feed it Wheaties - isn't that the cereal that used to show big, strapping boys on the box? Maybe I should feed it a steak LOL.

BTW, setup begins at 12:30. The shelter has been reserved for that time. See you all at the swap!

I agree you don't see many because the styles clash. The house you posted above is what I sometimes refer to as a builder show house... They built it to show clients how many different things they no how to do all on one project. This isn't the worst example... but look at all the things that don't quite go... There's brick, and stone, and shakes. One column looks like all brick base, and two look almost like stone base (can't tell for sure). There are windows with arched transoms. and windows with squared transoms. There are wooden truss looking beam features in each gable, but no other wood on the entire house. I don't know... its just kind of a mish mash for me. I'm sure someone smarter than me could find other oddities.
